    And it surfaces again.

Calzaghe was a counter puncher at his best.

He wasnt agressive at all. The swarmer **** started with the 1000 figure output he put on Lacy, and was highlighted by the inept Manfredo throwing nothing back and leaning on the ropes. What was Calzaghe supposed to do?

He was a counter puncher. The fighters that werent stupid enough to come directly at him,(Reid,Eubank,Hop and Kessler for half a fight) caused him far more trouble than those that came for him.

It's a weird belief Calzaghe was some sort of swarmer in every fight that went straight to his oppo trying to stop them. Complete fabrication. He could change to that if it needed it.

The best example is Lacy but seeing as he's now ridiculed, whats the point.

If a fighter comes on to him(His preferance) he can showcase his skills. Second half of the Kessler fight is the best example of this outside Lacy, because it's the first truley talented fighter to actually chase him(Why Kessler did it I dont know, for me he was winning with what he was doing). The rest of Calzaghe's fights are like this, but against weaker oppo(Spoilers aside)

The rest of the best from his resume made it a point not to go after him but to make him come onto them. Eubank,Reid and Kessler in the first half of the fight did it well. Hop stood Calzaghe on his head for 4 rounds. It's what Calzaghe did after that that makes him a great fighter. He has a change in tact for even his Kryptonite. He can change multiple times in a fight.

If you dont get it or see it then fair enough, but it's good. More than good, he can leave his style of fight, take them on with their style, then change again to get the win.

well, to be honest, the counter punching would not be that good against jones since hes a couter puncehr himself. you saw how befuldlded toney was. although griffin did have some sucess.

  10. Yeah - Joe really has been at his best when the fighter comes to him.. Great post.

You guys are living in fanboy fantasyland. Roy Jones is all wrong for Joe, as well as being a vastly superior fighter anyway. Try to stop fixating on the zero for one minute, try to stop thinking that waggling your hands around really fast equals great boxing, and watch some dvd's of peak Roy Jones. Calzaghe would face someone who was faster both of foot and hand, someone with far greater power than him (or Salem or Mitchell or Hopkins or the 40-year-old corpse version of Roy), someone with the accuracy to smash through Joe's sloppy and amateurish defence again and again and again, and someone who was superfit to the point that he could easily match (and probably exceed if needed) Joe's famed workrate - you Joe fans may want to support your man and defend him in what you perceive as a hostile environment, but if you seriously think he could have made it close against the absolute peak version of Superman, you are not in touch with reality. Jones is a completely different level of fighter to Joe Calzaghe. The evidence is there to see in their fights.

I am known for being a huge fan of Manny Pacquiao (often being labelled a *******), but that doesn't mean I think he could have hung with peak Duran or Whitaker. Being a fan isn't about irrational delusion and blind devotion, be a fan of boxing before being a fan of a certain fighter.

  13. The evidence shows that Jones was able to bring his A game regularly - and take advantage of many overmatched opponents, and their deficiencies.

Joe seemed to only bring his A game when the occasion demanded it, he often fought down to the level of his opponent. If Eric Lucas could last 12 rounds with Jones - it's hardly foolhardy to assume that Calzaghe - who does have a good chin, and is underrated somewhat in his defence (he's taken little punishment for an "amateurish defence" over his career), couldn't last the full 12 rounds himself.

Jones did lose rounds in his prime - and Calzaghe has the tools and intangibles to make Jones take on his safety first approach, which means Calzaghe is unlikely to be KD'd several times - as Jones is too safety first.

It's all speculation and conjecture - you can no better say what happens than I, Joe or Roy themselves.

I think Roy would UD Calzaghe. So I agree. I wasnt saying Joe beats Roy. It was just this myth that Calzaghe is some sort of agreesive come forward fighter that is strange to me. He can change to that as the fight pans out, be it the 1st or 6th round, but he doesnt start that way.

I think Roy gets the UD, But he doesnt stop him in 3 or 6 or any other bull****. It would be the toughest fight of Roy's career in prime at 168 against a prime calzaghe at 168.

The last 3 or 4 rounds especially would be brilliant in my book.

Dinamita can say and do as he please's,its an open forum.Whether anyone is remotely interested in his oppinion is another matter entirely.:good
Quite clearly a follower of hype and reputation.Saying Jones would outclass and dominate Calzaghe is delusional at best,at least be realistic instead of blinded by the P4P shite.Anyone can look good against the "right" opponent.:good
