A good portion of Jones's fights right after the McCellan tragedy ended early.

While it obviously messed with Jones's head, the effects it had on his fighting style and fights going rounds are very exaggerated IMO. Jones started being more conservative and his fights lasted longer more so when he went to 175 and faced bigger opponents.

 

Roy Jones by TKO/KO. A 90 yrs old jones drop calzaghe, imagine what he would have done to him during his prime. Jones was too fast and too slick for calzaghe.

 

It's when people over exaggerate things greatly, that loses any credibility in argument.

He is 3 years older than Joe. So by your reckoning he dropped an 87 year old Calzaghe.

after that it was all joe calzaghe. joe had banked more rounds and jones wasn't doing **** in round 7 . hell in round 9 joe could of stopped him but decided to play with him. (side note some where glenn kelly was having a party) Get the **** out of here.

 

Roy would win a unanimous decision, but it would've been a great fight, easily one of Jone's biggest tests in those days.

Joe is ESB's Marciano. It's a demographic thing.

If there was an ESB Olympics we would soon discover why the polling on here is so asinine. In the real world, Joe remains completely (COMPLETELY) unknown in the US (not because Americans don't follow boxing but because they only know the greats). Joe is a very good fighter. He is not anywhere close to RJJ's fighting zip code.

 

Haven't you heard? Hindsight is all the rage these days; it seems to matter more to some people what guys accomplish afterward than what they did before the fight. Bernard Hopkins' best win before losing to Roy was a dude named Wayne Powell whose claim to fame was winning the NABF light middleweight title, and look how Roy's win over Hopkins is reflected upon today.

Glen Johnson's best wins when Hopkins destroyed him were against a 3 legged goat and a morbidly obese lobster, but he had a 30 something and 0 record at the time and won a title 10 years later; so, naturally, there's more than a few people who actually rate that as one of Hopkins' best wins.

If Jones had beaten Calzaghe, and Calzaghe went on to have the exact same career he did, there's no question it would be looked at as a huge win for Jones today, even if people didn't care that much about it at the time like the prior two cases I mentioned.
