Flamboyant boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. does not deserve a larger slice of the purse pie in a fight with boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, as far as the views of a boxing analyst are concerned.

In his latest blog posted in The Ring’s official website (

), boxing analyst and reporter Michael Rosenthal said the returning Mayweather — himself a former pound-for-pound king — is a lesser draw compared with Pacquiao and should not get the lion’s share of the pot.

“Mayweather reportedly wants a 60-40 split of the purse in his favor in a fight against Manny Pacquiao. Is he nuts? Pacquiao is the hottest fighter on the planet — one of the hottest athletes, period. Mayweather was never a huge draw and is coming off a long layoff,” Rosenthal wrote.

Mayweather (39-0, 25 KOs), who retired in 2008, announced his return to professional prizefighting on May 1, a day before Pacquiao dismantled Ricky Hatton in two rounds. The undefeated boxer faces Pacquiao arch-nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18.

After Pacquiao destroyed Hatton, boxing observers have started talking about a potential Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown. Some reports, however, said Mayweather is asking for a bigger purse split.
Rosenthal, meanwhile, said a 50-50 sharing is more considerable.

“I can see 50-50 because Mayweather will generate considerable interest in the US market,” he wrote. “But 60-40? Who knows, perhaps that’s Mayweather’s way of saying he doesn’t want to fight Pacquiao.”
“Perhaps, after Pacquiao’s demolition of Ricky Hatton, he [Mayweather] doesn’t believe he can beat the Filipino.”

Pac has more options and has shown he is willing to take the risks. 55-45 Pac! Not to mention Pac is a seller, and an "A side"... Floyd needs a high profile "A side" to get him those paydays.

If Floyd doesn't fight Pac...what's there for him? Shane? Williams? Cotto? Doubtful...

floyd is pricing himself out of the fight. he knew what pac did to oscar and hatton and is now just settling to fight pac's leftover. ;)

Yeah because the fact that pac had fewer fans in the seats and did fewer PPV buys then did Floyd vs the same two fighters shows the people that live in Lance world that Pac is the seller..

What a ****ing moron you are fast reaching farmboxer status with your biased and baseless pointless posts.

50-50. But its the reason that the fight isnt going to happen. Arum and Pac arent going to move from there number and Floyd isnt going to move from his number even though Floyd is closer to were the numbers should be he will be the one taking the blame.

 Such a simpleminded fool you are. There are a lot of factors that go into why some fight sell..and others don't.

I said Pac has more options....WTF willl Floyd do if he doesn't fight Pac *******?

LIke I said, Pac is an "A side Seller"...Floyd NEEDS an A SIDE to be in a big PPV event.

That is a legit question..and since you obviously ignored that part tells me you have no answer fanboy.

the fight has to happen & will happen.

i mean, can u really see floyd saying **** it and moving on to cotto or shane for less $ ? -hell no.

IMO 50/50 is spot on, enless floyds fight with marquez turns out to be a complete dud.

I agree. Make it a true prize fight. Agreeing (or not) to this type of deal would show how confident they both are of victory.

Just wait after the JMM and they will probably accept a 50/50.
Floyd still has a fight with JMM, after that then he can start the negotiations.

Yeah, and since Mayweather is so confident he should have no problem with 40-40 20 to winner.
