Is Ruiz the most underrated hw of all time?

Without a doubt his style sucks, but no one can deny that he has ARGUABLY the best resume in the hw division, with wins over a near prime Holyfield, Rahman, Johnson, Oquendo, Golota, McCline and possibly Valuev. People say that he has no skills but he beat very good fighters. He has an iron chin, is very strong and has deceptive power, and remember that he knocked down a Holyfield that Tyson couldn't hurt. Everytime we watch his fights wishing to see him get knocked out he always pulls a win. Without a doubt he is the most underrated fighter of the last 20 years.

 

No. he sucked huge balls, and I'm glad we haven't seen him for a while. He couldn't beat Antonio Tarver without clinching after every shot he threw. **** Ruiz.

 

No. The most under-rated hweavyweight of all-time, has to be Rocky Marciano. The guy just can't get any respect.

As a boxing fan, one of my greatest fears is that Boxrec will convince future generations that Ruiz is underrated.

 

Yeah Holyfield was still good at that time, and beat the crap out of Tyson not too long ago. Oquendo is certainly underrated too and Rahman was still good then. He gave some excuses I don't buy...remember that he knocked out Kali Meehan not long after that.

 

The fact that he becomes Champion makes him the most overrated in heavyweight history. He should not have been champion.

 

atsch Holyfield was pushing 40 when he fought Ruiz, that being said he is a disgrace for a fighter who should've been DQ'd many times, than again with jokes like Ibrigamov, Austin , Peter and Valuev around, I guess he doesn't look too bad......:rofl:rofl:rofl

The guy is not worthy of being a heavyweight champion. The hard way? He never fought Lennox for a title. He never fought Tua again. Somehow he found his way to fighting the lesser competition. He is overrated. Ruiz in a strong division should not be champion or even top 5 contender. I even think Ruiz challenging Lewis is a waste of time. Lewis would have stopped him in two rounds. How is that someone who is underrated?

 

In any other era Ruiz would have been disqualified in every fight I've seen him in bar the Jones and Tua fights. He is not underrated, he is crap and he is a cheat.

 

Hmmmmm. Kind of an interesting point. As far as I'm concerned Ruiz is pretty much an example or a point of reference if you will of how low the heavyweight division has dropped in prestige within the last decade. The fighters you refer to as examples of his underrated record were either past their prime ( Holyfield - I don't care that he beat Tyson btw, anyone who has watched Holyfield/Tyson throughout their careers can see this was not two fighters anywhere near the prime of their career ) or simply fighters in any other era's would have never even been heard of. On the downside of his record he has losses to RJJ ( although I can understand why some would not consider this a bad defeat considering RJJ's standing regarding P4P at the time ) a 10 second KO against Tua and to Valuev in the 2nd fight ( which in my view was clearly a Valuev win ). However, as bad as Ruiz is ( in the context of all-time world class heavyweight boxers ) and as ridiculed as he is by both fans and critics alike, he ( as far as I remember ) has only been KO'd once in his career, and has competed competitively in every fight he's had ( aside from the KO ), and held the WBA belt twice. In comparison to other heavyweights throughout the era's and to base his record on from what I recall is a terrible resume then I can understand why he is not rated highly, but considering what he has achieved and the disdain he seems to cajole from people, I think you can make a case for him being the most most underrated heavyweight of the last 20 years based on the disparity of how he viewed compared to what he has achieved.

 

Not too long ago?? That was almost 6 YEARS, Perhaps 7, from Tyson to Ruiz.
