If Rocky Marciano is so overrated, why has nobody else done what he did?

What are you talking about? Ottke and Calzaghe both basically accomplished the same thing - which is AFTER RM. It certainly is far less likely to occur going forward but we have seen a few fighters now through timely well considered matchmaking and the probable assistance of alphabet organizations in avoiding risky fighters in their prime equal his perfection. Hopefully no one will ever be able to only fight other greats when they are ****ing old men and feign excellence again.

 

The Rock isn't overrated. He's top 5 all time heavyweight easy.

 

Brit Sillynanny beat me to the punch, look no further than Calzaghe. He is the modern equivalent of Marciano. Hell he even emulated Marciano's beating of a way past his prime legend in Joe Louis, when he beat RJJ.

 

What is the difference, they fought guys who were ATG in there prime and seemingly untouchable and beat them when they were nowhere near their best so they could capitalize off having their name on their resume.

The fact that Marciano admitted to what it was gives me a lot more respect for him as a person, but it doesn't change the fact that both situations were the same.

 

Marciano and Calzaghe are very much the same in terms of thier resumes'. Both guys spent the better part of thier careers fighting totally outclassed bums then ended thier career by adding some well past thier prime greats. HOWEVER Rocky didnt really have a opition he fought the best fighters that were around for him to fight While Joe...Well, he didnt.

I give Joe credit for taking on a young Mikkel Kessler... I'm sure everyone will say he's just another "euro-bum" but I guess I am biased as a Kessler fan and i think he is an animal.
