According to the book "Charley Burley and the Black Murderers Row", Ray was demanding $25k for a Burley fight. Promoters staged a card in the midwest with both of them on it, hoping to hype a match between the two. After the fight, Ray doubled his demand to $50k. He was quoted as saying "I'm too pretty to fight Burley".

Burley himself didn't blame Ray. He remarked at what an amazing fighter Ray was, and how much more he could've done if he didn't have to wait so long for a WW title shot.

He also said that if he were in the same position, he wouldn't have risked it by fighting Ray.

Boxing has nothing to do with weight classes and negotiations involving millions of dollars. Pryor (or his team) didn't turn down $500,000 for a Leonard fight.

All that matters is what is shown on Legendary Nights, and what goes on in press conferences.

Fights are made in press conferences and who calls who out. Promoters, network contracts, negotiations, timing, weight divisions, that has nothing to do with it at all. If you get called out and don't answer, it must mean you're ducking and scared.

Riddick Bowe (or Rock Newman) avoiding Lennox Lewis was bad. Yeah, yeah, I understand what they were doing. They were probably trying to milk HBO for millions in easier fights and then set up a big megafight with Lewis.

It was still shitty. The fans ended up being robbed of a fight they wanted to see.

I've only been a hardcore fan of the sport for about 18 months and in my opinion 2 clear ducks are/were

1. Oscar ducking Margarito
2. Calzaghe ducking Pavlik (proven to be a monumental mistake)
