I think Zarate would win this more often than not due to his significant advantages in height and reach which he knew how to use very well. Also, with Rafael having those shaky whiskers of his I just don`t see him surviving too long against Zarate, as soon as he gets stunned the end won`t be far off as Carlos was a very good finisher... bad style matchup for Marquez this fight is imo.
Austin had good height and reach as well, plus he could also bang plenty, but Marquez pulled it out against him. It was an older Austin, but still an unbeaten Austin. Do you think that the version of Marquez after he won the title, when he turned towards more of a boxer-puncher style, would stand a good chance against Zarate?
If Zarate still had the nerves and intensity he had before the Gomez fight, I think he could win this with his shorter, more precise punching. Post-Gomez, Zarate looked to me like he was a bit gunshy, and perhaps the loss took something away from his chin. In that case, the fight might be a different call.
Marquez has, or rather, had a style that would present problems for any bantamweight, with outstanding speed, ring intelligence, guts, and devastating power. I think he would stand a good chance to beat hot and cold Ruben Olivares, and would definitely give Zarate a run for his money, if he fought a bit more defensive. Rafael would maybe take 3 out of 10 fights between the two. He would stand a chance against Eder Jofre though.
I'll copy up a summary I did of the right a while ago: As you can see Austin's reach caused problems. I think Zarate would use his reach well like Raging Bull said and eventually get the stoppage.
Could be strikingly simular to the Alfonso Zamora fight. Both trading massive punches, Carlos a little more faster & polished ,lands the big blow around the fifth. & once Carlos has his man hurt...
It's very possible. I personally rate Marquez higher than most on here it seems. But i must say Zarate here
