One of my favorite match ups from that 80's Golden Era. Thanks for the link - I have the fight - but I've never seen the build up before.
If he was too short to be a good middleweight, he would never have taken one of the greatest middleweights in history the distance, and he would never have beaten the 6' 1", Barkley, and floored him down the stretch. Duran was a good middleweight, just not a great one.

Superb commentary on this fight with Al Bernstein. He breaks down a fight very well indeed, and he now calls the live fights for Showtime. Not a barnburner this fight. Just an interesting affair. Some sharp counters and defensive moves by Duran. An interesting tactical boxing match all the way through.
Okay fight. Extremely overrated "close" fight, as I only gave Duran 4 rounds. Almost as bad as the judges in Benitez-Duran. Still, Duran showed once again how difficult a target he could be.
This was not a close fight. Hagler dominated duran in almost all of the rounds. It was a one sided affair.
