Maybe it is but his situation must be known to a few people within the trade and he shouldn't have to ask.

why would I be on any minute?

referring to the 'Buchanan v Hatton' thread in the general? In which some people pick Hatton. I'd probably pick this 63 year old Ken to beat current Wicky.
As some people have said hopefully he can just sign some gloves etc....I would buy some stuff. Doesn't sound like he's too convinced about doin it anyway....

**** me lets have a whip round.Or better still Warren, Maloney,Hennesy,Hearns and the rest of the greedy fat ****ers who profess to love this great sport should stick their hands in their pockets. They could even promote a show to raise money were the fighter box for free. I'm 38 and would'nt dream of fightin again. But i'd do it for a cause like that. Its ****ed up if boxing stands back and lets this happen.

An idea just came into my head. How about an ESB fundraising night of exhibition fights? If those hillibies in general can make money fighting each other in that trailer park series crap surely we could something for a good cause like this.

We could do this. Me and Primadonna Kool are meant to be having a fight this year because we don't like each other but we were just going to do it in a gym. I'm sure some of the lads here wouldn't mind matching up for some exhibitions. It's not like we have to in great shape (i'm ridiculously out of shape), none of us are making a run at a title (well most of us aren't)

Boxing shouldn't have let this happen to him and still can do something. Hopefully some promoters will organise fundraisers. Pull your fingers out Waren, Maloney, Booth, Hennessy, and the rest.

I feel sick, the promoters are risking having a DEATH on their hands.

His missus took him to the cleaners by all accounts..

Really Sad news and will only harm the image of Boxing...many of the public do not know of "white Coller" Boxing

  13. No sympathy from me, he was earning 6 figure sums fighting at MSG and headlined there 7 times, he was the Hatton of the 70's

He was reported to have made approx $150k each for the Laguna II and Duran fights

To put that into perspective, top Div 1 football players were earning about £100 a week if that, and wouldn't earn 150k in 3-5 years never mind twice a year. and the average house price was about 5 grand

He had more than enough money to set himself up, if Ricky Hatton came back in 20 years saying he was broke because he had pissed it up the wall I wouldn't have any sympathy for the guy, and I feel the same about Ken

These days sportsmen are cute enough to have agents looking after their earnings. Back then Ken would have had dozens of 'friends' all looking to earn out of him.

Down on their luck footballers have the PFA to get help from. Whatever happened to that boxers association Barry McGuigan started?
