Does anyone have a full listing of the Jimmy Jacobs fight collection?

I SAW ALL THESE FIGHTS TUESDAY NIGHT
by Jim Jacobs THE RING September 1961.

According to the book by Dan Streible, Jacobs claims to have had or seen such lost bouts as:

Joe Walcott vs Joe Gans September 30, 1904 and claims he had James Jeffries vs Jack Monroe shown at Jack Dempsey's home in 1960.

Jacobs was a man of high integrity. I don not think he would lie, but some others might lie about what saw or had. Unfortunately for us Jacobs passed most or all of his boxing film collection to the late Bill Clayton who sold it to ESPN Classic. At least 98% of the Jimmy Jacobs fight collection has not been seen since.

Does anyone know the full listing of the collection? A press release on the purchase said ESPN Classic purchased over 16,000 fights.

 

didnt Jacobs have a company called Real Good fights Inc where he sold his fights from did people not get full lits of all the ifght he had?

also i heard Espn havent actually checked what fights are all there

I do know that Bill Clayton sold off Jacob's collection to ESPN Classic for a large sum of cash. If ESPN needs some to identify what they own, I'd be happy to volunteer.

 

There's a fight amongst Jacobs' collection, Battling Siki vs Ad Wolgast, wearly 1900's I think. That's one I'd pay to have! Love to see that!

 

i have heard he had the company. Its a shame a boxing fan never bought the collection as we wouldnt have alot of fights lost

You mean Ad Wolgast vs Battling Nelson? That fight definitely exists.

Battling Siki was the light heavyweight champion who had a war with Georges Carpentier.

 

Jimmy Jacobs and Bill Cayton had the company Big Fights, inc.

Im almost positive of having Siki vs Carpentier... via a Battling Siki production aired in oz about 15-20 years ago. Could be wrong though.

Speaking with different people over the last 6 months, suggestions regarding Greb fights have simmered little. All the same, 3 blokes I know seem aware of parties who claim possessions. All USA based holders.

Siki vs Carpentier is not hard to get. I know one person who claims to have Dempsey and Greb sparring. I offered a fair trade of some stuff he doesn't have, plus some cash. Nothing. My conclusion was he's listing Dempsey sparring with Grebe to attract people to his web site in the hopes they will buy something else.

Rare fight collectors are paranoid lot. They often won't trade with you unless you know one of their trading partners and sware not to tell where you are getting what you are trading for.

If a collector is boasting about a rare film, I think a never before seen photo shot or two would up the value of what they own, and offer them much needed credibility.

My interest in this thread is the Jimmy Jacobs 16,000 fight collection is fact. What does ESPN Classic own?

Ok, take a look at the figure .. 16,000 fights! That amounts to perhaps 1000 fights MAXIMUM that ere genuinly unheard of.. or lost.

The Jacobs collection does sound a lttle boastful regarding numbers on film, although the number of fights filmed, including sparring may be around that figure.. prior to PPV.

I'd openly assume that the major MSG cards from 1916-1940, plus any major films with significance prior to Louis would be in the collection.

Its been said for a long time that Jacobs had been to Australia, and manouvered a mammoth collection from the propriotors of Stadiums LTD, and enforced via 'legal' threats to have any further editions furnaced. These films being relevant to all programs conducted in the period of mid 1908-1940 also. Relevent films of earlier bouts had also been claimed as priorty, as they remained property of John Wren, an early financial advocee for stadiums.. almost the promoter of Burns/Johnson.

Hugh McIntosh himself, purchased the rights to the Tivoli Film circuit.. and munufactured Stadiums LTD prior Burns/Johnson... Tivoli had the rights prior to McIntosh, to all early film recordings in Oz!!

God knows what might be in the Jacobs/Cayton/ESPN collection... regardless of whats in there, its not OWNED by anyone. Its a bull**** agreement amongst thieves.
