I think its the whole Rocky thing, he wasn't technically the best, he wasn't the smartest fighter but he had the heart of a Lion. He went in with two fighters clearly better then him and tried to be the best, to me it was more then money for Hatton. It's like he said its hard for him to look boxing fans in the eye because of the Pac man fight, he tried and failed just like Tim Henman...the British love the under dog, we want them to win because its a modern day fairy tale, the working man, under dog done good. He tried to be the best and he failed...I can respect that.

He comes to fight, he's vulnerable, seems an approachable personality, not a big headed twat like some would have you believe unlike some famous American boxers James Toney, Floyd Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins, Antonio Tarver etc all pricks with massive ego's.

I remember after the Kostya fight when Ricky was out on the street celebrating with all his family and friends,a bit like shameless I know but he wasn't waving a wedge around cuddlin' up to some bitches tellin' all an sundry he was the man, even though he'd just become champ.

Many people give testament to how friendly and down to earth the man is and it's true his image as a beer swilling bloke from down the pub done good has appealed to many too.

and whats with the was, he hasn't retired just yet and if he does decide to duke it out one last time the same people will support him I'm sure.

(Just as long as he doesn't expect them to travel or to Vegas) Wembley or the M.E.N would be fine.

That's how I see him and many others do to, I don't see the sinister motive behind the man that you do.

Tieing himself in with the football fans. That was the best thing he ever did and the key to his commercial success.

Anyway when I check this thread tomorrow it will be flamed by the jealous haters, and the fact remains that Hatton has been Britains most popular boxer for a long time.

    No matter how we dissect

He just seems to be a decent, funny bloke who's one of the lads. I've met quite a few of his friends and no one has a bad word to say about him.

It does seem a case of "what you see is what you get" with Hatton, although people on the Internet who've never met him claim to know better.... :patsch

Yes he will still be followed by the Man City and other footie fans who know nothing about boxing and think its all about walking in a Hatton wonderland.

I was embarrassed to be English when I went to Vegas for the Mayweather fight, the Hatton fans didn`t know who Thomas Hearns was and were all asking "who the ****s that" when Angelo Dundee was signing copies of his book.

    nothing sinster as such

it just I dont see the following as "being down to earth"

*Drinking beer like a lout and eating crap food

*Mooning his naked bum to photographers on a pissed up night out

*Talking bollocks to the media about being pound for pound king

*Constantly using crass and rude language to tell rude jokes

*Making excuses for losing to better fighters

*Making earning piles of cash your God...........but pretending to
everyone it's not about money - all about pleasing fans

*Leaving quickly after stand up speechs when the cash has been
    pocketed

*Constantly telling people you are this "down to earth man of the people"

*Going out with a fraud of a girlfriend who plays up to the cameras like
    a drama queen

Ricky Hatton is just a rude chav

    real down to earth boxers.....................
