Risk.......... Hmmm Ricky Hatton sums this up nicely.

Fight the two best fighters in the world for huge money. If you lose so what. You still gets loads of money and can move down to your lower level again.

    VERSUS......

Fight dangerous, unpopular mandatory fighters for £1m.

Froch.... fight Kessler for decent money... risk losing and end of big time career.

    VERSUS

Fight Hopkins at lightheavy, if you lose you can still defend the WBC 168lbs title later.

Risk is always before the fight, that's why its called "risk" and not "result". How can something be evaluated as risk after a fight? Its like risking a £100 bet after the results are announced? You know the results so there's no risk involved.

BTW your examples are a bit screwed. A risk is something that is low odds of happening, ie Mosley KO Margarito. You are not suppose to get ran over when you walk out the house, Mosley was suppose to loose or at least not win by KO.

I picked Mosley to win too..thats irrelevant. WHo you or I pick doesnt change the odds, risk is based on odds. If 99/100 people think Mosley will loose and I think he will win, its still a damm big upset and big risk. Majority rules.

So its based on majority? I would agree with that because i used to use the majority rules theory... but then someone was like

" well the majoirty of the world thought the earth was flat until christopher columbus proved everyone wrong"

so i mean.... the majoirty really means nothing as well... so do the odd's makers.... they cant be correct 100% of the time...

thats why I say the odds makers mean nothing in this debate... atleast in my opinion

No they cant but moves and decisions are based on odds. Play with the stock market, all your decisions are based on odds. The tougher the odds, the bigger the risk. Christopher Columbus is regarded great because he proved the majority wrong...the world was not flat...just as Mosley win is regarded great because he proved the majority wrong.

right thats my point... i mean were talking about human beings... there are so many variables and intangibles that no odds maker or "poster" could really assess.. thats why i dont think you can measure a fights risk until after... i mean maybe you can call it risky...but you wont know if it is or not until it truly happens

Risk can be measured before the fight. Definitely . . . I'm not talking about the physical risk.

It's as simple as what you will lose against what you will earn in the fight. The stature, the % of losing against money.

Pacquiao vs Oscar is risky. It was a circus act.

As in the words of Manny Pacquiao at the weigh-in prior to his fight against Hatton, he said, "You never know what is going to happen."

Plus, if you remember the PBF-Baldo fight, it was entitled "Pretty Risk." So you think it was prior?

    See my point?

The whole point of risk is its a perception thing, so it is irrelevant after the fight, as the outcome is already known so any element of chance is taken out. Pac took a huge risk fighting Oscar, everyone thought it would be a massive challenge and one that he couldn't pull off, i am sure he had his doubts and knew he was taking a big risk. In the end he embarrased him with ease.
