what do you mean? pacman & floyd are doing/have done... what oscar did.... except they just didnt get as much love along the way

years ago im sure they said there would never be another jack johnson
    then ali comes along
years ago im sure they said there woudl never be another ali
    then tyson comes along

etc etc.... there will always be someone that will take the sport on their shoulders and captivate the world..we just have to be patient and wait for him to come around..

ive explained to someone else this before on the forum numerous times

    - basketball & football pay too much
    - boxing is not offered in school
    - the only possible way you can be exposed to boxing is if you have family in it or someone specifically brings you down to the gym
    - boxing DOESN'T pay well enough
    - boxing has no system

Lol you talk like its the messiah, but
I really don't agree with the be patient attitude. THe only way to get a potential ATGs' / captivator of audience or whatever is to make sure boxing is getting awesome exposure and popularity to get more participants because then you get more participants in boxing and you get more people that can end up pursuing it and becoming great or exciting or magical.... its cyclical.

This bulletpoint list is excellent. It outlines the obstacles to overcome... I would definitely add, the TV network / PPV issue on the list of the problems.

The first step to reaching any goal is to clearly define the obstacles. Well done.

Boxing doesn't need any exposure for these things to happen... There will always be kids in neighborhoods all over the world that will continue to put out young & talented fighters... We just have to hope that some of those taelnts turn into greats....I mean. Exposire will help but just because boxing doesn't get exposure (which it doesn't) won't stop the sport... Go on youtube right now and look up pretty boy bam bam or lehkai mayweather.. There are others as welll.. There will always be young boxers like I said you just have to be patient and wait

Thi is about boxing in the US not internationally. And I disagree. I think that boxing is NOT as available as it once was to the underprivelidged kids. There are NOT nearly as many gyms. Hell take Philly for example, it used to be renowned for its gym wars, and was known as the city of brotherly gloves. But the amount of gyms (actually in philadelphia, north south or west) now, is a joke.

Anyway I'm heading to bed, Euro / AFrican / Asian ESB brethren feel free to discuss, criticise or contribute, hopefully this thread will still be on page 1 for the Americans to take part in tommorow

Regrdless of how many actual gyms there are kids will still box... And as long as people box competitively there will have to be one top dog that is better than the rest... You have nothing to worry about.... And boxing matters internationally all the latino fighters-the euro fighters- the african fighters - the asian fighters... They all hold places in boxing history as well so you can't deny them either... As long as people box the sport will be fine.. You just have to hope that one of the up and comers who come along is a true dynamo

PPV is killing boxing. Boxing used to be on free TV, ABC, NBC and CBS. Also, should show many of the European fights.

find a american boxing hero that never let the american fans down...just as the way pacquiao never let the filipino fans down

Larry Merchant said 'if we had a manny pacquiao in every division we would solve world hunger' or something like that. I don't think people starving to death give a crap about manny pacquiao (unless they're Fillipino), but it would make boxing the most popular sport in the world.

Take a look at some of the fights on TV, pure mismatches to build up a fighter's record. Those fights should not be shown on TV, leave them in the gym where they belong. We need some good matchups.

The UFC IS the household name.

It's a much better concept than relying on individual guys to draw.

Will probably never happen again... boxing is too dangerous and only the top 1% of 1% really get big money out of it. It's almost certain brain damage with very little chance of a reward. Just one of the reasons you should respect those crazy ****ers in the ring.
