Pinklon Thomas went from age 27 to age 67 over night.......... Thomas looked fine in 1984.... Thomas was sloppy but still winning in 1985...... By 1986, Thomas was slower than molasses with no reflexes or stamina..... In 1987, Thomas was almost killed by Mike Tyson........ In 1988, Thomas was butchered by Holy........ After 1988, I no longer gave a **** about Pinky Thomas and his career......... Peace... MR.BILL
Pinky was classic Lost Generation without the drugs, he really could of been something special. On a side-note, the Tyson fight was a bit dodgy, the under/over was five rounds, and Tyson could of got the job done in the second, and yet waited to the sixth.:huh A bit unlike prime Tyson, to let someone off the hook:yep, well, at least until the sixth!
Pinklon Thomas took a wicked ass beating from Tyson in round 1....... Christ, the doctor had to check in on Thomas between rds............ Thomas fought Tyson like he was 67 yrs old.......... Slow and ponderous........ SR.BILL
I remember Thomas fighting Tommy Morrison...Thomas' erosion, though, imo, wasn't as horrible as Michael Dokes' was
Dokes was a better fighter than Thomas.......... Dokes got iced by "Ruddock & Bowe" late in his career, but Dokes was still better than Stinklon Thomas....... Er, uh, Pinklon.........:yep:blood MR.BILL:admin
does anyone have a link to the fight between Thomas and Weaver?? was it a good fight or a boring one?
Thomas looked liked garbage by the time he fought Morrison. No defence whatsoever. Wasn't there a guy at ringside caught on camera shouting "Round 6, Mike!", as Tyson was working Thomas over towards the end of the 1st round?
I was really big on Thomas from the Tillis & Coetzee fights, which were televised on free TV, through the Weaver fight. It seemed he was going to be Holmes' heir apparent. Was shocked when he lost to Berbick and his subsequent quick downfall, though getting back on the junk would explain it. Dokes actually had a pretty good run in the late 80's until the Ruddock fight. Holyfield's win over Dokes wasn't Holyfield beating up on old man, but a very good win over a top 3 contender. Hell, the Ruddock's KO of Michael was still a very good win over a top 3 contender. I likened Dokes' shot against Bowe to Ali giving Williams & Foley title shots in that, in all three cases, it was better late than never to get a deserved shot at the legitimate World Title. Unfortunately Dokes didn't bother to take his chance seriously. The Dokes who fought Holyfield would've made a much better fight of it. As to Thomas, he was very good for a very short period of time.
I taped the fight off HBO back in '85...... Thomas hurt / dropped Weaver early, but then struggled before landing a one-punch bomb to KO Weaver in round 8....... It was a good but sloppy fight.... It was Thomas' last big win of note.......... :bbb MR.BILLatsch
All I know is that the under/over was the fifth, and that Tyson dominated so much in the first, it seemed at the time there was no way Pinky could survive the second. What I do remember about the sixth was that they changed Pinky's glove, and then after the break for it, Tyson literally landed that 20 odd punch salvo, that got the job done, and Thomas did not throw one punch with that glove!
thomas had notable wins over james tillis, tim witherspoon and mike weaver and was an impressive 26-0-1 when he was dealt his first loss of his pro career to trevor berbick followed by losses to mike tyson, evander holyfield , fringe contender mike hunter, riddick bowe, and tommy morrison. the argument that thomas was at the ass end of his career when he fought boxxing's elite of that time cannot be used here. he was young and not used up as far as a record standpoint goes. i guess illegal substances that he used were more important than becoming a legend.
He had 3 bouts or so after that Berbick loss where he looked dreadful & the ballgame was over. He was nothing more than an opponent for Tyson when they fought and nobody was picking Pinklon to win that one. I knew he'd lose that Berbick fight when he started doing all the same crap you see lots of guys do once they hit the big $$$. He started a recording career. Rumors of drugs again. Fires Dundee. Takes a long time off between bouts. Starts to believe those press clippings & then shows up with his B game against Berbick & it's goodbye title.
