I'm a huge Pac fan, but I have to admit, recently (emphasis on recently, in case people start bringing up morales, barrera etc), in terms of opponents, JMM always seems to fight the more dangerous opponents Pac vs Diaz < JMM vs Casamayoz Pac vs De la Hoya < JMM vs Juan Diaz (this one is based on hindsight of course, very few expected DLH to look that bad, pre-fight it would be the other way around) Pac vs Hatton < JMM vs PBF Plus JMM fighting PBF @ 147 (according to the latest reports) is making Pac look bad (with Roach's comments about having catchweights for Cotto and Mosley). To be fair though, Cotto and Mosley really are bigger than PBF so fighting them @147 is a big disadvantage for Pac. And while JMM really had to fight hard to beat his opposition, the manner in which Pac absolutely destroys his cannot be ignored (which is why I still have Pac as #1 P4P in my book) Thoughts?
I don't think anyone can deny the balls of either fighter. Considering these guys are realistically natural SUPER FEATHERWEIGHTS, they are doing some crazy **** fighting the guys they are fighting at the weights they are. That being said...Pac has seemingly filled out nicely to 140 pounds...to me, JMM looked a bit small for 135...we'll have to see how he bulks up.
The PBF fight takes him over the top. But Casa and Diaz were not dangerous fights at all. In his 2 fights prior to JMM, Casa almost lost to Katsidis, and did lose to Santa Cruz. Diaz went the distance with Katsidis and lost to Nate Campbell. Think about it. JMM was a big favorite in both those fights. Moving up 2 divisions to fight PBF? JMM's balls > Pac's
True, I'm not saying that Pac doesn't have balls, and his weight moving is some crazy **** indeed. But for JMM to move up 2 weights to fight PBF? That's just insane! I hope he bulks up as well as Pac does, Pac is just a freak of nature for being able to add those pounds that well.
Lets face it, Pac man has all the cards so he can make people agree to catch weights. JMM had to agree to whatever Floyd wanted if he wanted the big fight. And he is fighting a guy who is coming off a long lay off so he is rolling the dice and thinking that maybe it will even it up. JMM just doesnt have the clout right now to make too many demands on big fighters, where Pac man does.
If Mayweather's home turf, his ref,his judges, commentators, etc., impossible win for Marquez. He is just way too small. I feel sorry for Marquez for taking this fight for money. He is letting his fans down.
I think a little bit of stupidity is required to have balls as for desperation, that could very well be true. JMM seems a bit too eager to prove himself.
a) You don't have "balls in hindsight". b) JMM has no choice about 147. The guy's credentials are impecable, but at his age this is really a money fight for him. He deserves MUCH better treatment than he's getting, but the bottom line is he is taking what he can get (though not getting what he deserves).
Fair enough. I'm not sure if I'm happy for the guy for getting a big money fight or sorry for him for getting a big money fight against "money" mayweather at 147. Still, he accepted so props to him for doing something potentially dumb and but still ballsy.
add to that, i think he's making up for the years where he wasn't that keen on fighting quality level of opposition. he only stepped it up starting 2004. maybe it was a case of bad management or merely overshadowed by the 2 other great mexican contemporaries. come to think of it, he's already 35 years old so it's kind of a make or break situation for him at this point..
