One of the reasons why Marquez gives Pacquiao trouble is because not only is he a master counter puncher he also has decent handspeed to go with it can those attributes give Floyd Problem?
JMM's style presented problems for PAC...not his hand speed. Yes..JMM has decent speed but no where near PACs or Floyds.
Right. Floyd has top 10 speed regardless of the weight...but fading and up in weight makes it even harder for JMM.
It's not about matching Pacquiao for speed or matching Floyd. It's about TIMING & good counter-punching. However, in this fight... most likely Floyd will goad Marquez ON (more than the other way around). So Marquez will have to fight the majority of the fight making the first move! The Oscar who fought Floyd was nowhere near as fast as the Oscar of old... however he consistently won the early rounds by putting it on Floyd, not giving him too much space to operate & by, most crucially, USING HIS JAB! (he had a beautiful jab his whole career but never really relied on it.. he would always abandon it). Problem is, Marquez's reach is half a foot less than Floyd's... Don't underestimate The Great Juan Manuel, though. He blends in fakes better than any other fighter in the recent years of boxing.. and keeps you guessing (at least when he's fighting his fight). If he can outsmart Floyd & have Floyd open up for a few moments every now + then.. he can do enough to win rounds! I'm intrigued to see just what exactly Nacho & Juan Manuel have planned for Floyd!
Hand speed will suffer moving from 135 to 147. Hopefully JMM doesn't lose his counter punch capabilities. Then it might be entertaining. At least I'm hoping it goes the distance.
Not really, but he's not as far off as some seem to be suggesting. He's more of a technician - precise punching etc. Also, his camp said they're building pure muscle, which will slow him down.
IM rollin with combination on a few points, timing good counter punching and the Jab are crucial for him. BUt these things will only garner for him, the ability to make it a competetive fight for say 8 or nine rounds. JMN must fight the most perfect fight of his life, which I believe he has been preparing for, in the past battles against BARR, PAC 1-2-CASAMayor,and DIAZ. ONe more crucial thing maybe the most crucial of all is JMN tactics- WILL he go forward or try and get Floyd to chase him- I believe Markez has a much better chance to win, if he can bait MAyweather, to chase him. he is a great counterpuncher- and FLOYD has fought almost all his fights going Backwards
note how i said he can do enough to win roundS (as in more than one round.. plural). I didn't say he will do enough to win enough rounds to win the fight (i.e. 7 or more) !! with that cleared up though, if you were asking me- yes - I'm serious about what I wrote. if you're asking him? well he's a little naive here with his topic choice: since no way Marquez can even come close to matching Pacquiao for handspeed... no-one can today except perhaps Mosley (though he's not quite as fast as he used to be!) & Floyd, even though I think Pacquiao has faster hands & feet (though Floyd will play counterpuncher when he comes up against Pacquiao, and pick him apart!) Marquez is a technician & one who never gets decisively beat! You gotta KTFO him (and that ain't easy!). If Floyd wins a landslide & clearly outboxes + outsmarts Juan Manuel, let him be hailed as the first to truly, decisively beat Juan Manuel. A subtle but big accomplishment! Even with the size (reach worries me more than weight!) discrepancy!
exactly.. which is why I feel, what with Marquez's desire to please the fans (and he will have MANY come July 18th), he will lose the battle of wills and take up the role of 'aggressor' as the fight wears on. Back & forth would be interesting, though. Floyd may want to make a statement & may feel he can beat Marquez while being the more active fighter (possible but not probable).. who knows... If you had to bet ya savings on it though, Floyd will not afford Marquez the luxury of his favoured role: counter-puncher.
**** the speed , weight and reach. Can anyone agree that Marquez would be the most intelligent fighter that Floyd had ever came up against? Floyd is freaking smart too but Juan has a boxing encyclopedia in his pocket.
