I think he will go the distance, massive statement i know, but for me maybe only Lamotta has a better and more proven chin

No one lasted the distance with Gomez at superbantam...but Wayne is one person that more then likely would.

I think the corner might pull him after a beating, as the fight wouldn't even be remotely competitive with Gomez's huge advantages in, well, everything other than chin. Wayne did have inhuman durability, though, and I can't even a fathom a full on KO from Gomez or anyone around that weight.

If McCullough could stay on his feet and not even be considered as being wobbled against Morales and Hamed over 24 rounds at super-bantamweight and featherweight, I don't see any evidence to suggest that Gomez could knock him out or stop him on his feet for that matter.

I think Gomez is a much better fighter offensively then Morales and Hamed though. Naseem has the better one punch power but isnt the offensive talent Gomez was, nor is his style as good for forcing the stoppage like Wilfredo's was. Naz basically fought a lot of that fight on the back foot and I think Gomez would spend a lot more it bouncing in and out with constant attacks.

Erik didnt have his ability in this regard either..not really that close IMO.

Not saying I think he stops Wayne...but as Pea said he does have the tools to force a corner stoppage with the level of dominance he would be showing.

This would be fascinating... I really dont know....

Id say yes, Wayne hears the final bell (for several weeks afterwards too for his trouble)

Agreed. There's no correlation between Hamed or Morales and Gomez. The only comparison is power, which is a small factor (especially against someone like McCullough) in the grand scheme of things.

To Sweet Pea and all others on this thread:

Who has the best chin - McCullough or Oliver McCall?

IMO McCall...I think its different taking shots off guys who can often outweigh you by some margin then it is taking shots off guys your own weight class. Though mexicans could often outweigh you in the ring by some margin at the lower weights..so maybe that rationale is flawed.

Either way I think Oliver has an arguement for the greatest chin ever...of all fighters. Now Ive said that I bet the old ***** gets stopped tommorrow.

I haven't watched too much of McCall honestly, outside of a few fights, notably the Lewis stoppage in the rematch. That showing I believe was overrated as faras his durability goes. People act as if he just stood there and let Lewis tee off, when in reality he almost always covered up/deflected the shots, and Lewis never even really let his hands go.

Anyways, having seen more of a McCullough's ability to absorb punishment, I'm more impressed by him. LaMotta remains, and will likely always remain, the standard as far as tough sons of bitches go, though.

I think his fight with Bruno is a better indication of his toughness...he ate some wicked shots in that one, against one of the bigger heavyweight punchers of that period IMO.

Frank may have been fairly well past his prime but he could still punch.

At 122 I think Gomez stops everyone bar Jofre (who obviously never fought 122 but was good at 118 and 126 so I presume he would be fine there)
