Boxing Daniel Geale ready for bout with Anthony Mundine in Brisbane May 22, 2009 By his own admission, not many people recognise world boxing champion Daniel Geale on the street. But those who do pretty much say the same thing. "Just about everybody that I meet says 'when you knock Anthony Mundine out, make sure you pick him back up and knock him out again'," Geale laughed. "I get a lot of that. "It's good to know that I have a lot of support out there - it gives me confidence." Watch the Geale v Mundine fight, Live May 27 on Main Event, Channel 518. Undercard from 6.30pm including Sonny Bill Williams' pro debut. Check foxsports.com.au for your nearest venue. The quietly spoken Tasmanian is more comfortable letting his fists do the talking ahead of defending his IBO middleweight world title against Mundine in Brisbane on Wednesday night. He may have little choice anyway. It is unlikely he would get a word in edgewise with "The Man", also in Brisbane to complete his preparation. But the Sydney-based Geale, 28, still managed to deliver an early blow on Friday, questioning the wisdom of Mundine moving down a division to middleweight. "He is coming down from super middleweight - he hasn't shown a lot of strength at that weight yet," Geale said. "That's something I am going to test out." The world title fight will be only Mundine's second outing as a middleweight. "It remains to be seen if it brings his power down," Geale said. "But he doesn't seem to be punching as hard as he used to. "Dropping down to middleweight is a tough thing to do. "I have dropped weight over my life, and it's not easy - and it's a lot harder when you are older. "I was a little bit surprised by that (Mundine moving down a division)." Geale is one of Mundine's toughest prospects - and most underrated. He had 160 amateur bouts - including a 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games gold medal - and he is unbeaten as a professional (21-0, including 13 knockouts). But few would recognise him outside Australian boxing circles. That may all change after Wednesday night. "I'm glad to be under the radar," Geale said. "But this is a massive opportunity for me. "He (Mundine) used to not really fight people who he thought were going to give him a tough fight. "He thinks it is going to be easy - it is definitely not going to be an easy fight." Geale seemed unperturbed by the hoopla surrounding the fight, especially the hysteria caused by rugby convert Sonny Bill Williams fighting on the undercard as a favour for good mate Mundine. Geale described the Mundine-SBW circus as "a lot of noise". "The results will show," Geale said ominously. "He (Mundine) says some stuff that a lot of people don't like which is probably the reason why a lot of people come to the fight to see him get knocked out."
Just wonder why TeamTightArse chose a Thursday for the bout??? Cheap rates at the arena no doubt. A crowd of 6500 will suprise me.
