It WAS close... but still went to the wrong man. For the record - I scored the 1st 2 Barrera fights for Morales & I feel he had the better career outside of their trilogy also. His defence was underrated but he did take clean shots... but he had the best chin in the business in his prime to cover that minor flaw & was never rattled for more than 2 seconds in any fight & ALWAYS responded like a warrior. Great fighter, wonderfull entertainer.
By your own admission, you hate Barrera. Very childish, and for that reason I can't discuss those fights with you. You don't even concede that Marco won any of those fights. Laughable. That said, Barrera aside, Morales is a credit to the sport of Boxing.
It would be more childish if I pretended to like him but kept taking digs at him every now & then, Im just letting every **** know where I am with the little weed, I hate him, very true.... but I still can score a fight without being influenced by popular opinion or commentators & I never discredit his fighting skills, he is an ATG in that department, no doubt. I also have said MANY times that the 1st & 3rd fights could have gone either way & I wont strongly debate with anyone who gives them to MAB. The 2nd fight however was a clear Morales victory, I point blank refuse to respect any opinion that says MAB won that fight. Glad to have cleared that up for you..... AGAIN. :thumbsup
There's nothing childish about hating a fighter Selfkill. I also hate Barrera. Cant stand him. But IMO he did get the better of things in that first war
The general consensus among Boxing fans and writers is that the easiest fight of the three to score was the rubber match, in which I felt Barrera clearly outboxed Erik. About as much as the first fight was a clear victory. I don't like how this thread has been going. As I say, I'm a big Erik Morales supporter and I don't feel the need to call him "a little weed" at any point, but the guy had major flaws. He was easy to hit, In Jin Chi gave him all he can handle, and you argue he was getting hit to often against the likes of Wayne McCullough. Let's not lose sight of what he actually is. A flawed ATG that put the fans before his own career, which often cost him.
Of course it's childish. You don't even know these people, personally. You've seen them on TV putting their life on the line every time they step in the circle. Barrera deserves universal respect.
As a fighter yes of course theres respect, but i dont have any for him as a person. Obviously i dont know him, but from what i've seen i hate him. Its natural that youre going to like some fighters and not like others, your going to love some fighters and hate others. Same with any sport.
Great thread about a great fighter. Morales has been my favourite fighter over the last 10 years. Always fighting for the fans and generating excitement. I live in Ireland and travelled all the way to Las Vegas to see the third Morales - Pacquiao fight. Was really gutted with the result that night, but at least I got to see Morales fight before he retired (please, please stay retired). He lost to the better fighter on the night and I'm really pleased that 'The Pacman' has achieved great success, he's a great ambassador for the sport. The rivarly between Morales and Barrera was electric. To be honest, I think Barrera did slightly edge Morales when you look at their three epic fights. They were so evenly matched, though, that they almost fought each other to a standstill. I use their first fight to try to introduce friends to the great sport of boxing. Most of them always say that they couldn't believe that two men could fight with such intensity for an entire 12 rounds! One of the greatest fights of all time. I feel so honoured to have grown up in an era where great fighters like Barrera, Morales, Marquez and Pacquiao were slugging it out. I missed out on the great rivarlries of the past - Hagler, Hearns, Duran; Ali, Foreman, Frazier etc - but I'm sure history will acknowledge these latest rivalries as something very special indeed. Great thread mate - vivo Erik Morales!
:good i think they got the 1st and 2nd decisions the wrong way round. I mpersally felt Morales had it in him to win all three but did't due to his flawed mentality.
