Prime for Prime who wins and why? I think Randall speed Boxing skills ect...would have trouble Tszyu yeah he had his monster right hand and everything but Randall got hit plenty of times by JCC and he wasn't hurt at all in that fight i think Randall CAN win a UD or MAYBE a late stoppage.
I picked Randall by stoppage, but really wonder if he had the durability for Tszyu. Stylewise I like Randall, but have no problems with those picking Tszyu.
Randall was a little chinny. Can't forget that he was sparked out (Badly) by Primos Ramos among all people.
It's hard to say. Randall's chin looked unbreakable around the time of the Chavez fights, but in earlier fights against bangers like Rosario and Pendleton he found himself in a bit of strife. As Russ suggested, even Ramos banged him out, and that was from a punch that seemed to be partially deflected! (Mind you, it's always looked suspect to me, not sure if more than meets the eye was afoot there.) I think Randall is a better fighter than Vince Phillips, but Vince is a better hitter and ultimately that may be the difference in a fight between Tszyu and Randall. Tszyu did have some troubles with guys that could take his shots and press him (Phillips, Urkal, Pineda), but if Randall doesn't hurt Tszyu enough to take him out he will drop a close-ish decision I think. A Tszyu KO is not beyond the realms of possibility, but I think it goes the distance.
Tough to call, a lot of variables here. Tszyu was always very deceptively skilled and adaptable. Still, I think I give Randall the edge. Randall always had a great right hand, and Tszyu was always semi-vulnerable to right hands. Plus, Tszyu didn't always like guys who took it to him and backed him up, and Randall is the kind of guy who is willing to test him that way.
If I remember that right, Ramos kept slipping Randall's jab and lading left hooks on the inside, until he finally caught him with one on the chin. I never thought that was suspicious, I thought Ramos fought a good fight and nailed him damn good. Is it possible Randall wasn't as sturdy down at 135?
Just went and reviewed the fight again, and you're right M2S, Ramos was landing some leaping left hooks prior to the final left hook that dropped him. And the punch DID actually land clean looking a it on replay. Didn't look that way live.
Do you think it could have been his drug problems beginning in earnest? Wasn't he very unactive for a bit after the Ramos fight...
Franklin Randall of 1994 was already 33 yrs old, but in great shape and serious....... That Randall gives anyone hell at 140 pounds....... Frank Randall BEAT J.C. Chavez 2X in that year........ Forget the rematch in May of 1994, Randall was screwed over to the max by the "Chavez Loving" judges....... Randall had Chavez' number in 1994........ Forget the good but past it rubber match of 2004, it really proved and meant nothing; though it was a good event in Mexico.... Chavez won that fight....... Randall looked like he was 50 years old and graying...... I do NOT know if Randall could beat Kostya Tszyu in a time machine.... But I will say that Randall was very good and solid at 140 pounds prior to age 35........ He was worthy of note...... I like Randall...... :bbb:hi::rasta MR.BILL:yep
Hmmmm.... Yeah........ Hmmmmmmm.... I just don't know there................ OOOHHHH!! At 140, both did great things....... Randall became old / normal at 147 pounds........... I never saw Tszyu do jack **** at 147, so I can't say there........ What a difference welterweight can make for a natural 140 pounder........ MR.BILL
