It's going to be hard for anyone to defeat him. His karate stance gives him so much advantage to all the other MMA fighters. He can kick well off of it and avoid damage. I wonder if his success would change MMA to evolve once again and adopt karate techniques. Props to Machida. "Karate is BACK!" --- Machida.
Machida redeems everyone out there who has true skill not practicing MMA. The talent pool of MMA is avg at best and when you have a guy like Lyoto..he would shine. But theres more like him. Wait til this Ishii kid makes his debut
I have train in Karate throughout my teens, and after seeing so many lame karate guys losing in MMA tourneys, made me lost faith in what I learn, but I had always felt that a great Karate fighter could win these tourney if he ever shows, and finally Machida answer the call. :happy
There are about 1 billion Karate practicioners in this world. You break it down to the top 100 practicioners and you have a guy that will beat a UFC champ like Rashad with ease. Machida was a karate pro, Im sure he wasnt undefeated, His brothers are equal to him and yet you dont hear about them
You are probably right. There are probably a even better karate fighter out there who doesn't care for fame or money and we just don't hear about him. This also applies to the other traditional martial arts school as well.
Machida isn't just a Karate fighter. Even looking at tonights rather one-sided fight; what was he doing when he clinched up with Evans? Wrestling. What was he doing when he was throwing punches at his noggin? Boxing. That wasn't a Karate match, it was an MMA match with a karate...flavor. Its awesome to watch something new stylistically, but I don't expect to see an influx of this style of fighter. Enjoy LM while you can, there won't be another for a while.
I know Machida is not just a karate fighter but karate is predominantly his style. Before Machida, Karate were consider pointless in MMA. Now Machida proved people wrong that it also has it's winning elements. By the way, the punching isn't boxing. He punches like a karate practicioner.. you obviously don't practice if you think all punching is boxing. "Karate is BACK!" Machida says..
Hahahaha, that was 90% karate, even Rogan couldnt help himself. the stance, distance, the kicks, the quick straights. When Rashad got hurt, Machida at that point was just finishing him up like anyone would have finished him, there was no style necessary. Rashad was done!
Well, its definitely not useless. I think it was more considered useless as a style unto itself or pretty weak as a 'base' - and thats still true. In my opinion, not really. He's a very good all round fighter who strikes with a Karate style.
Well imagine a young Joe Lewis clone now. These guys exists but Im not sure they are willing to go into another sport where they have to train in all so many other disciplines when they are already successful at what they do. Lyoto is a different guy with a different mentality, he wanted to prove something to the world, thats why hes always proud of his karate.
Anderson Silva is the best striker in MMA because he has mastered the best striking art in the world and that is Muay Thai, not Karate.
Don't forget to include the individual. It really does matter who is the guy that is using the technique, not just the technique. That goes for Karate as well as Muay Thai
