I hear alot of PPL say that some boxer cherry pick there oppenets, I still dont know what this means. The only PPL you truley have to fight is your mandatories. Now I know we like to see champs fight champs and some fights we demand like Mayweather-Pacquiao and Pavilk-Abraham but what does cherry picking really mean. Some PPL say Mayweather cherry picked JMM but what does that mean?? Yeah Mayweather chose him to fight but what else is he supposed to do? what are boxers supposed to do? have there manger choose all there fights for them? If you do that you end up like Cotto and Pavilk fighting a bunch of cupcakes. I just want somebody to clarify what cherry picking means
It means picking the easier fights. In Floyds case he is not even picking them tho, They arrive on his door step wrapped in plastic.
Ok I get what your saying. Some PPL say mayweather cherry picked JMM, but is anybody really gonna say that Quintana or Collazo is better then Marquez? I dont think so
They won't because IMO they are not in a p4p sense. But having JMM jump up 2 weight divisions to face PBF really leaves JMM going up hill even before the fight begins. That said, PBF must still be as sharp as he could, JMM has been active & still fighting at a very high level. I wouldn't be suprised If Mayweather is made to look rusty & a possible old 32.
cherry picking - when ever a fighter you don't like fights anyone else besides who you are rooting for ...
I think Sugar Ray Leonard cherry-picked to some extent. He waited to fight Hagler to when Hagler was over the hill. He wouldn't give Hearns a rematch until he thought Hearns was used up. Great fighter, but he always angled for an advantage in a match-up. The opposite end of the spectrum was Duran, who always wanted to fight the best fighter around. http://www.amazon.com/Joe-Gans-Biography-American-Champion/dp/0786439947/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b
