When one door shuts, another opens.

The old proverb couldn't be more true at light-middleweight. When James Kirkland was arrested a few weeks ago, Golden Boy Promotions cancelled his televised undercard bout, and people expecting to see the possible next big thing at LMW turned their attention to Cuban Erislandy Lara, who delivered bigtime last Friday as well.

For over a year now there were discussions of a future Kirkland vs. Alfredo Angulo superfight, but Kirkland is out for good, and Lara might be Golden Boy Promotions' best light middleweight prospect anyway, just a year behind on Angulo's schedule. The sudden rise of Cuban pro prospects can set up all sorts of national rivalries, and there a possible big one between the Classy Cuban and the Monstrous Mexican:

What do you think of this light-middleweight match-up, which might not happen anytime soon, but if both men keeps on winning, will most likely happen?

No way do they stick Angulo with Lara. Lara would kick his ass from hell to high water. Angulo couldn't deal with someone with Lara's speed.

I think that Angulo would have the edge i a 10 rounder - Lara needs to fight at least one vs. a top30 guy before going to fight Angulo. Afight between them might be possible in about 9 months...

I noticed that Lara has nice reach and was able to capitalize from the outside however I also noticed that he lacked the ability to finish the fight. He went to a UD with a guy he should have finished and that can be very dangerous especially with a guy like Angulo who fights every second of every round.
    Angulo by TKO

I was more impressed by Matt Korobov than Lara. Dam that guy is explosive!

It's all a matter of matchmaking though. Korobov has a big punch, but he's very tentative when his opponent is throwing punches and he's on the slow side. I feel like he'll have problems once he faces someone who can handle his power.

Guys, forget about Korobov. Matt is a MW/SMW/LHW, Lara is a WW/LMW. HBO completely messed it up, they are far from each other in size and weight, I don't see them ever fighting each other, so I don't think they should be compared to each other.

Korobov vs. Jacobs can be an exellent rivalry at 168. But at 154, it's Angulo vs. Lara!

    Lara UD 120-108. Assuming it's 12 rounds.

People need to chill out on Lara, he was pretty lousy on the Pac - Hatton undercard. Give him some time before he gets thrown in with a decent operator.

Could not agree more. He's a great prospect, but he's not going to be world title ready inside of 15 fights like Gamboa was. Rushing him toward Angulo would be an awful career move.
