His career still isnt over so it's still difficult to determine but sofar up to this point where do you place him historically? He could realistically be undefeated since he dominated Byrd and quit because of his shoulder injury. So where would you rank Vitali..I feel he has underrated boxing skills and defense he may not be slick but hes wittier than some might think :deal
Too early to tell. He could possibly win another belt or he could lose in his next fight. If Haye beats Wlad he has a chance to be the Ring, WBC, IBF, WBO Heavyweight Champion something that has not been done in a long time.
Somewhere in the top 30. I don't think anyone doubts that he is a great head to head fighter, but the accomplishment just isn't there. The big chance was agaisnt Lewis, and although it was a hard way to loose, he lost fair and square. He could go way up, however. He is very similar to George Foreman both in his skill set (size, power and chin, never depended on speed in the first place) and motivation (never got a rematch for his biggest loss). So I despite what everyone says about his career winding down, I could see him hanging around fro a long time racking up wins.
I don't really know where I rank him but let's see... A 6'7'' 250 lb fighter with power, defense, workrate, and a chin. You can pretty much fit a guy like that into any era and expect good results.
Somewhere in the top 20. On the way up. Vitali needs to fight the winner of Chagaev and Valuev in a title unifcation match.
He's a good fighter but it's impossible to rank him highly because he hasn't beaten anybody worth mentioning. Sorry folks.
Also head to head Vitali Klitschko is a dangerous fight for anyone. All time is ranking is obvious at this time much lower.
as a fighter? or his accomplishments? durability wise, chin wise, and as a fighter he should rank highly, but accomplishments wise....unrated, he didnt beat enough good fighters, simply because there isnt any
Yep. Over-rated chin too, Sanders floored him and Lewis had him hanging on for dear life. He lost to the best 2 fighters he faced too, in his prime. That never looks good, regardless of how he lost.
^^^^^ Don't tell that to the people who first started watching boxing around the time they saw him fight the "great" Lennox Lewis though. The nationalists, racialists, generationalists, and agenda pushers of various sort don't want to hear that ****.
Nowhere special. Vitali's biggest claim to fame is being stopped by Lewis on cuts. He simply doesn't have the names on his resume to be considered an ATG. Head to Head he would give a lot of better ranked HWs a decent fight though, but he is simply too unproven to be compared with genuinely great HWs.
i agree. very good fighter, no doubt he would be an atg, but the most important fight he lost to a semi retired lennox lewis, even though it was very close. i think at this point he'd barely break the top 100 all time and is a top 25 heavyweight. too bad ike ibeabuchi or lennox couldn't hang around to solidify his vitali's atg status. he needs to beat another great boxer in order to be one himself. if he doesn't, then it wouldn't be fair to not call naseem hamed an atg. he beat most of his adversaries, looked unbeatable, but when faced vs. a great, he got beat. vitali's just in the wrong era
