Margarito and Paul Williams were known as killers, they were meant to be invincible, the threads started on Margarito were about how he would destroy the entire 147lb division and the only one with a chance to beat him was paul williams.

why doesn't mosley get the credit he deserves?

why isn't he the most feared welterweight in the world?

For me it works like this -

I'm of the opinion that Margarito was using loaded gloves for Cotto and probably before. THIS is the guy that everyone feared, the loaded glove guy. Then Sugar fights him, but he is bereft of the loaded gloves that made him so deadly. Unfair to Mosley, perhaps, but that is how I see it.

I agree with a more general point though, that Mosley should be much more loved and popular overall. He's a tank who ducks nobody and comes to fight. I remember actually feeling fear for him when he took on Antonio. Anyway, he wasted him. Good boy.

When he beat Oscar, he still didnt become a household name in the Philippines.

Even when he became the best fighter in the planet, he was still not constantly talked about out here.

Oscar was a big draw back here back in the 90's-2000's and he was the star.

At least when Trinidad beat him, people here started to notice Tito more, and his fights were being televised live and he was a favorite.

Maybe Sugar Shane just doesnt have a lot of natural charisma or a larger than life persona. He's just really good, and people respect him here, but you're not compelled to follow his every career move or his works outside of boxing.

I dont get this either. Mosley is so underhyped its crazy. He is one of the few great fighters still fighting, always willing to fight the absolute best. He doesnt shy away from contenders, nor rematches. I wish he got more love form the fans

He seems very humble and down to earth, he is highly respected as a fighter, just not over publicised and overhyped not like some.

Because he keeps loosing thus he's never able to sustain that aura of invincibility long enough. Fans like winners. Even Margo who lost to Santos, he had a great run after that where he was undefeated for so long people thought he's this whole new fighter...probably was with those new gloves. lol.

When he beat DLH he was p4p #1 and I think he had much more fans then, he was on top and if he had just beat another big name after he would have been seen as invincible.

The only thing I can think of is that he had a run of bad form a few years ago beginning wih the losses to Forrest and that it's stuck in people's memories.

he also ko'd Vargas TWICE and beat De La Hoya TWICE and ko'd the unbreakable Margarito. Fact is you cannot really knock the guy 35 years old taking on cotto and mararito. apart from Williams I don't think many other welterwights would stand much of a chance against winky.

yep, just goes to show the weak state of american boxing. i think imo alot had to do also just as he was starting to become alittle better known and his victory over oscar a clear points win rather than tito's controversial win catapulted him into the p4p ranks going for him, then suddenly loses to vernon forrest didn't help. even though vernon had wins over shane in the amateurs, none of forrest's previous wins were as credible as shane's, so shane was still considered the favorite in the fight. another thing is he's got a very laid back attitude alot like lennox lewis, where they let their fists speak for them. i think what helped oscar alot were just so many things that made him very marketable, things that did not have to do with boxing, but oscar in his prime did have very good skill. oscar not only had the american public, but he brought in alot of females and mexican fans, who both loved and hated him, but nevertheless was an exciting fighter.

i always kinda thought mosley was alittle underappreciated, alot like Bhops, especially in the U.S. i remember seeing him wearing some trunks saying "azucar" as in "sugar" in spanish and i thought "Well, if the American public won't appreciate him, at least he can win over alot of Mexican fans." Jose "Mantequilla" Napoles won over alot of Mexican fans being Cuban. i hope people won't really start to appreciate him after he retires because that would be a mistake. I think like Bhops he is respected in the sport, but has never got the hype thing going for him. I think his win over margo helped for sure, but when the plaster of paris thing came up, it kinda did take away from his victory, which is alittle unfair

I don't know in his last fight he destroyed Margarito, I mean he hardly landed and shots on Mosley, loaded gloves would have made no difference. And sure Cotto beat him but it was not an easy fight for Cotto. I would pick Mosley to win a rematch, the difference being his new trainer.

Yes I would pick Mosely in a rematch but I would also like to see how cotto performs against a Clottey after his loss to Margarito.

i'd pick mosley to beat cotto also, their first fight very close, but pw is just a freak. it's also alittle unfair to compare his win over winky in 08 to shane's fights with winky in 04, winky was a different fighter fighting more constantly back then. i think if they fought at 140-147 in his prime shane had the power and speed to beat pw, but 154 on up it's all pw.

He'll get the hype and kudos he deserves upon retirement.
