I for one love the pro game,but I am totally aware that as a top amateur you have to fight-regularly-the very best out there in order to win a big international tournament. The pro game is a money game! Quite a lot of the best amateurs havent even turned pro,didnt turn pro,and will never turn pro due to a myriad of different reasons. As for Lomachenko I very much hope that he will turn pro within the next couple of months. Damn! It is pure fun to watch him fight in a ring.He was the most outstanding fighter of the olympics at Beijing/China. One of the most skilled boxers out there-amateurs and pros.
They're overrated yes. It's completley changed in the last few years in Cuba..... only one Bronze medal at the Olympics last year!
Somewhat but Vasquez I think that's what his name was is a much better fighter than the guy he fought on the Hatton-Pac undercard.

Rigo (1) and Lara (2) were banned, Gamboa (3), Barthelemy (4) and Solis (5) left 2,5 years ago, also hot youngsters like Garcia, Acosta, Santana and Perez defected. All of the sudden, the medal favorites and top talents were gone, and you don't build up a new team in a few month. Might be too much to ask, but try to think with the head of those who remained, teammates, trainers, etc. Half of the 'elite squad' left, now imagine how youngsters felt watching their idols throw national glory into the trash and leave the Island for 'easy money'. While pro boxing benefits from this, Cuban amateur boxing (and inside the camp it's not about politics but sport and working as a team for national happiness), suffered a HUGE knockout blow and it's now in pieces. It may have and effect on a whole generation of Cuban amateur fighters. That's the price they are paying for it.
They are not overrated, they are just trained like pro boxer in their childhood. Jyri Kjäll was average fighter in amateur before he lost his job an trainened like pro a while before big tournaments and he succeed

Yep! He plays in Gamboa's and Rigondeaux's league. I still dont understand why Lomachenko hasnt turned pro yet.His style is made for the pros. He was THE outstanding gold medal winner at the last olympics. By the way his opponent in the final,the Frenchman Djelkir,will soon turn pro.
