All I do is laugh at them. I just wanna see what kind of material they will give me after he beats Cotto and Shane.
He's ducking Chavez Jr. and Kelly Pavlik. Screenshot that as I can almost guarantee you it's going to be mentioned.
It has to due with the fact both are considered P4P #1. Floyd never really lost the title moreso than giving it up and PAC took that vacant title quickly and impressively to say the least. Now with Floyd back it makes for an interesting match up. I'd like to see Floyd fight Shane, Cotto, Marg, Clottley and Paul too given he is a real WW. But he's looking for the BIG money fights and PAC offers that. I'd like to see PAC fight all of those WWs too but PAC is not a WW and at this point his best weight is at 140....or at least his team beleives so. I mean there is only so far a guy that began his career at 108 can move up and be successful. For those who want to take PACs crown in the surrounding weight classes....it will be "them" who will need to make the sacrafice. PAC has done that in order to be sitting where he is presently.
Agreed! Pac is not obviously not to small, he fought ODLH @ 147. Pac is just more comfortable around 140.
Floyd doens't care about his legacy moreso than his bank roll brah. This fight is more for his financial situation than his legacy. However....for PAC this would be HUGE should he win...and that is a strong possibility given how he's evovled. Overall its a good fight for Boxing. Had Floyd been a different person mentality wise then Floyd would have had a FAAAAAAAR better resume than he's built thus far. Floyd is a great boxer with a very good Resume. PAC is a great fighter with an equally matching great resume.
He's already established and if he wasn't "all that" then he wouldn't be competing with Pacquiao for the #1 spot as the greatest fighter of this generation with both guys being TOO close to it. Surely they would/should replace Pacquiao with Margarito maybe or Cotto, right? ALL boxers fight for money, no such thing as "legacy and pride" first. Margarito played that game and as soon as he scored his FIRST major win it was pure money after that but was short lived.
That is the Mayweather parodox. The fans call him out for not fighting someone. He beats their ass. Then the "fans" say it was a BS victory for this or that reason. Nothing he ever does is ever enough. No wonder he is always pissed.
Floyd is all that! No one can question that. His skills are on a completely higher level than anyone. His talent is also up there ahead of most if not all. The problem Floyd faces by fighting a JMM and PAC is that they are going to be considered the "smaller" fighters. Which doesn't really matter to floyd. He's beaten the BIGGER guys already....they just havn't be GREAT big men aside from DLH which was extremely close. You're absolutley right....boxers fight for the money first and foremost...but Floyd made it clear his skills will make his legacy and he'll go after the money and let the rest play out the way they will. I wish Floyd faught Cotto, Marg ect....I know or feel strongly he'd beat those guys. But Floyd marches to his own drum and why shouldn't he? This is his life and his success! I enjoy watching him box....but some fans don't like his persona and style. I feel its needed in a dynamic sport like boxing...just like we need guys like PAC.
It's the nature of the beast. When you are #1 or on top you are always met with unfair and unjust critisim. PAC, DLH, Shane, Floyd, Roy even Leonard and Robinson had their fair share of unwarranted critisim.
Yeah I totally agree with you, great reasonable post. Mayweather made a career fighting bigger guys anyway and his hand injury plays a major role as it was obvious he is carrying the weight well but his hands aren't able to handle the weight he's putting on them. Still though more fights are yet to come we can't fully judge too soon, he has signed for 5 fights that's a clear sign he's planning to take care of whoever is worth mentioning out there. Still I disagree that he should have fought Margarito, his decision to ditch that unknown tomato can for DLH and Hatton are FAR better moves and earned him fighter of the year 2007, whopping Margarito wasn't going to earn him anything, as a matter of fact whopping Baldomir made him the same amount of money and got him the #1 spot at Welter. Cotto goes out of the discussion as he was publicly announced as NOT READY at the time. Surely he is ready now and he will get his doors knocked on and I'd like to see what people will say then. :smoke
:good Floyd will never do anything in boxing that he'll get full credit for. That's unfortunate b/c there are fights out there and wins that he has that were amazing. His win or destruction of Deigo was amazing considering this was a physically prime Chico and a prime Floyd...Floyd's ability to fight one handed agaisnt TOP guys should also be taken into consideration when he had a close fight with JLC. He proved what was "real" when he dominated the rematch. People need to enjoy Floyd for what he is! And Floyd doesn't try to say otherwise....he's a business man first who just so happens to be the best, purest boxer in the game. People will appreciate him when he's gone that is for sure.
That's normal, it happened to Ali/Tyson/Holmes/Lewis/RJJ and almost everyone that reaches the top. People tend to appreciate in the long run, look how RJJ is discussed and looked at now and compare that to 2004 here on ESB. Back in 2004 it was a copy/paste of what people are saying about Mayweather but to Jones.
