Cotto will win this fight if he can last the 12 rounds. He throws more punches and he is more versatile than Clottey. But will he break down in the late rounds like he did against Margarito or even in the late rounds against Mosley where he was running away from Mosley?

We saw Cotto land some great punches in the Margarito fight, but he still couldn't keep Margarito off of him. He simply couldn't hurt him. Margarito is a huge welterweight, and so is Clottey (after rehydrating, Clottey weighs up to 170 pounds on fight night).. I think we can see Cotto struggle with Clottey's size, strength, and durability just like he did against Margarito.

Clottey has a good guard, is a good counterpuncher, and has shown in previous fights he can take some good body shots.. as well as to the chin. Cotto may be in trouble in this one.

Not really. If Cotto loses, all discussions will turn to JuanMa Lopez who fights weeks later.

    We just move on

One very small problem with this hypotenuse. Margarito was constantly coming forward and constantly active. Clottey isn't. So while Cotto will certainly struggle with the bigger Clottey, he doesn't have to worry about a large punch output from an extremely heavy handed fighter like Margarito. He just has to avoid the explosions when they do come from the high guard turtle shell-esque Clottey.

Agreed, which is why I said if it goes 12 rounds, Cotto likely wins. Clottey isn't as active as Margarito but is a more precise puncher and 10x better in terms of timing and counterpunching. Just because Clottey doesn't throw as many punches as Margarito doesn't mean he still can't seriously hurt Cotto.

They're just fans of Cotto. They'll be gone for a while regardless or they'll just move on.

ESB moves fast. It's impossible to dwell on losses here.

Now you see why I say there will be a lot of hurt feelings given they only support Cotto and Cotto only!:good

My point is your argument used a fighter with a distinctively different style than Clottey to back up your prediction of Clottey's best chances. Cotto won't be hurt by Clottey if Clottey doesn't let loose. Clottey has a problem with letting his hands go at the opportune time. Counter punching is nice but chances are if he takes 5 to throw 1 (and he will if Cotto does as he normally does) he'll lose the round. The counter punching purists here might like it...but chances are the judges in an already hostile MSG won't be looking at that. They'll be looking at the 5 or 6 strong body punches Miguel landed (because CLottey will be impossible to catch up top if his defense is up to par).

Clottey needs to fight a NON-Joshua Clottey fight to win this. I don't think he's capabale enough to do that.

Please tell me where in my post did I compare Clottey's style to Margarito's. I simply compared their size and how the smaller Cotto may struggle to hurt the bigger fighter.

Not disputing any of that. Once again.. I said if it goes 12, Cotto is taking this. But the vibe I got from your response is you simply don't think Clottey can hurt Cotto because Clottey doesn't throw punches like a madman like Margarito does. That part I disagree with.
