Anthony "the black superman" Mundine: Boxing's most unfitting moniker?

    Now for everyone who does not know about Mundine outside of australia, his moniker is known as the black superman. Nothing wrong with that really..........................only, his skin tone isn't anywhere near black.



    Now Mundine does have some aboriginal blood in him (native australian for those that dont know), and full blooded native australians are black.


    However, i am white, and i have a darker skin tone then this guy!!


    In my opinion, this moniker is very much ill fitting



    I didn't start this thread to ignite a race debate BTW, so flamers do not reply. I'll let you decide for yourselves how fitting Mundines moniker is, here is a pic

    Its a stupid nickname...but he claims his aboriginality and makes no secret of it, its more of symbolic thing. His Dad is pretty dark and is mum looks very white but does have some Koori in her. He does champion black rights in Australia and does some pretty good things for the community that dont get as much press as they should.

    Think is though..he acts more Black American then Black Australian...which makes me question what he really means by it..He is a confused man, part white, part aboriginal Australian Muslim who acts like a African American...:huh

    Maybe he's decided to champion the cause of black people -- Only he would know the reason behind picking a nick like that. Especially since his skin color is not what you would call black.

    My question is this -- is he any good????:think

    Personally, i think the guy has an identity crisis. I mean, here he is, son of an aborginal champ, wanting to be the aboriginal spokesman of australia, and his skin tone is very very pale.


    No wonder the guy knows how to fight! :D





    But seriously, i agree with what you say about acting black american. I think the dude is so insecure about it he has to try to "act" black and state that he is black at every available oportunity. Hence the moniker, the black superman




    I have often wondered what would happen if an opponent happened to mention this at a press conference for a fight...................I think it would throw him personally, but i guess we will have to wait and see if it ever happens.



    At any rate, i think its an incredibly ill fitting moniker.

    Yes he is very good....top 3 or 4 in SMW then will get top 4 in MW.

    Thats about as high as he will go but as I said very good....world class.

    Great speed and evasion skills....maybe a bit chinny.....tends to have a low workrate.....but flashy.....bit like a Mayweather style of fighter

    That was his 11th fight.....he has done well for a footy player

    He went well against Kessler and RING had him number 3 SMW of the world.....how is that pitiful?

    Well, whatever works for him. All the sudden, my joking about Kelly Pavlik changing his nickname to Kid Chocolate doesn't seem so far fetched anymore.
