I can see where you are coming from but I think the part that is confusing you is that you're failing to recognise that black doesn't refer to skin colour, or at the least it refers to more than skin colour, it is a metaphor for something else. Race isn't a scientific term, it is social construct, its a concept that doesn't stand up to scientific analysis. Therefore we generally consider Aborigines to be 'black', Mundine considers himself to be an Aborigine, therefore he is black.

The ottke fight was years ago...Mundine has proven himself and his chin are world class since. But most importantly he has refined his defence a lot since then, so even guys like Kessler found it hard landing on him consistently.

He dominated two of the hardest punchers at supermiddleweight at the times he beat them in Green and Echols...Took some leather against Kessler and Siaca in losing on points.

How many very good, even great fighters have early hiccups like that?

Im not even a Mundine fan...but the guy has shown he has got what it takes to be consider a title threat.

Just a couple of years ago I would have actually favoured him to beat Sturm and have almost a 50% chance against AA. Pavlik pressures too much I fear, but if held in Australia two years ago, I would still give Mundine a decent chance (30% or so) against Pavlik.

I have, however, noticed that Mundine fights in a different way these days. He is less risk-averse (which is good), but his reactions and overall speed seems to have dropped a bit (which is bad). The speed-issue could be because he is fighting at a lower weight where people generally are faster. Just like Pacman was not especially fast early on in his carreer, but as he has moved up he seems faster and faster with every division.

So, lets say i convert to islam. Most muslims (well here in australia) are considered middle eastern. Therefore, if i am islamic, does that make me middle eastern? :huh

I see your point you are making above, but i just call it as i see it. Its not a racist thing, its just an observation. Mundine does have aboriginal blood, but he is hardly black, the pics speak for themselves. I just think its a very ill fitting moniker thats all. As someone said earlier in the thread, in a visual sense, its about as appropriate as calling kelly pavlik the chocolate kid.

Corretion: Race IS a scientific term, and NOT a social construct.

"The term race or racial group usually refers to the categorization of humans into populations or groups on the basis of various sets of heritable characteristics. The most widely used human racial categories are based on salient traits (especially skin color, cranial or facial features and hair texture)" (AAPA Statement on Biological Aspects of Race American Association of Physical Anthropologists).

You can convert to a religion, you can't convert to a race; that's in the blood.

If Aussie aboriginals are considered "black", then the guy is half black. He doesn't look it, and it'd seem more sensible to call him half aboriginal, but what the hell.

Given the weighted terminology of it, though, "black superman" would seem a really goofy thing to go with.

Guy is a milker of paper titles for big bank down under over here or any where else this clown would already be obscure and forgotten. Makes a living out of playing the Villain and haveing people pay to watch his ass get beat except in Australia the comp is so nonexistent that this clown can jab his way to victory down under.

So financial gain is a pure sign of quality of character? Hey i'll tell you who the idiot is now, Anthony Mundine.

He represents everything that is currently damaging the sport of boxing. He makes claims like he is "the greatest ever", when he isn't a top 2000 ATG.

Its embarrasing as an Australian that he swindles the ignorant public. Boxing in Australia is more or less a joke, and he manipulates that to the fullest. He even has the audacity to call himself a three time world champion when the closest he has come to becoming world champion is taking three rounds off Mikkel Kessler.

    Yep, Choc is an idiot.

Rafael - That's pretty accurate. I heard a stat that there is like 50 professional boxers of any weight in New South Wales which is the state Sydney is in, the biggest Aussie city. Not sure how accurate that is - But judging from our local fight cards we have on Aussie cable that seems to be more a national figure, we regularly import Pinoy, Thai and Polynesian fighters to make up the numbers in fight cards.

The sport is a ghost in the media over here, Mundine's football connection means that people pay more attention when he opens his stupid mouth.

He's come a long way from the Otke loss, a massive way - I'm not a fan at all, but his defence and handspeed have seen him survive some of his international level opponents, he's not been stopped since Otke, though he's been dropped by light punching fighters.

He played football in between light heavy and cruiser, he looks like death warmed up making '60.

    It seems that

I can't remember - The Echols fight was for a regular "world title while Calzaghe held the "super champion" title, then he got a different "title" after loosing that to Siaca which I can't remember - A Pan pacific or whatever and now the ultra prestige of an IB(wh)O(?) title...

So many people know I like boxing, but they only ever ask about boxing when he fights, it's a shame - Wish they'd had tuned in for Marquez Vasquez III...

IF you were a girl you would have funny looking lips and droopy silikone filled boobs.

Get some self-confidence dude. On the other hand - looking at the way you write etc. I think you need professional help. Just a friendly advice.
