Will Floyd retire if he suffers an "L" in his comeback?

He will claim he had "a damaged rotator cuff".

PBF will not lose.

 

Funny things happens when guys lose. I thought Roy Jones Jr. would have retired after he was knocked out two times yet now he keeps fighting. He still cherrypicks, but sometimes a loss makes these guys feel they have less to lose, so they take more chances to prove something.

. . . normally in a fighter, once he loses . . . he would want to hang around and recover some lost glory.

. . . but in the case of PBF who seems to have lost contact with reality . . . he might retire and continue to claim he is the best especially if he loses via close decission.

I do not see PBF losing to Marquez, but the idea got me to thinking. A loss might make him wake the **** up and realize he has not accomplished anything close to what he thinks he has. That would be a good thing.

 

Depends on the situation.

 

A lose would only gurantee him to stay in the sport longer and take the more riskier fights, he would have nothing to protect anymore.

 

Or he could pull a Hamed!

 

A L would be the best thing to happen to Floyd, reality check, rededication, taking serious risks to get rid of that loss.

I personally give Marquez abour 20% chance of winning, as good as he is, he was handpicked for Floyd to shine, counterpunching won't work, his aggressive side is flawed and open to left hands, the Mexican style suits Floyd perfectly (Castillo was a pressure figther, not a boxer-puncher), and he has 2 divisions and 4 years of age advantage. He sat down and carefully went through boxing to find the easiest opponent with the most popular PPV base and best P4P ranking, and found JMM, who had serious problems with Juan Diaz at LW.

I give about 40% chance to Pacquiao, the guy somehow always outperforms expectations. Still, Floyd is the complete fighter here, and good old pressure (Cotto) or an excellent jab and outside boxing (Williams) is his cryptonite, so I don't see him losing to JMM or Pac. Cotto has serious defensive and stamina problems, so I don't think he could pull it off either. Mosley is an interesting fight but to put things in perspective, Tony had the perfect style for him to shine, and the Mayorga and Cotto fights don't lie, he's past it. With that, it seems Shane and Cotto are still too much of a risk in Floydland. But Williams, I'd say he's got about 55-60% chance of beating Floyd.

A loss would make Floyd look for a unforgettable return, not vs. carefully selected opposition, and since he's REALLY GOOD, his bravery would finally match his skills.

 

Excellent post and I think that's a likely scenario should a L take some of the bluster away to reveal the true fighter underneath the swagger.

 

I feel pretty certain that he'd push for an immediate rematch with whoever beat him.
Floyd genuinely believes he's the best ever and I don't think his ego would allow him to retire on a loss.
If he avenged his loss, I think he would look for a couple of hard fights to "prove" his loss was a fluke.

 

:yep I can´t imagine Floyd Mayweather retire after a loss.He would demand a rematch,should he loose that to,then he might come up with an excuse.And then "retire"...Floyd is making an incredibly amount of money for a fight,so i think he will fight these 5 fights no matter what.
Do anybody know how much he is making for these 5 fights??

Depends on how he loses. If he loses on a split decision, his ego will probably survive in tact.

A wide UD, or even a knockout loss, then yeah, it'll be interesting to see Floyd come back from that. But good though JMM is, he's tiny compared to Floyd, i'll be impressed if he has the power to knock PBF out. But who knows, presumably the weight JMM is going to put on will all be muscle, Pac's carried up some power, so it's not out of the question.

Perhaps it's got to that stage all ready where only big fights are left, win or lose? With JMM, Mosley, Cotto, Pac and others out there, surely all his next fights will be big ones?
