By now, all know the story of Sad Chad Dawson's refusal to defend his WBC title against Adrian Diaconu in 2008.

One year later, nothing has changed.

Unfortunately for Chad Dawson's promoter Gary Shaw, his press release contained these words:

"no major television network was willing to buy the fight, the IBF left us little choice”

But don't believe me, take it from HBO -- the network who owns Dawson's rights for one more fight -- themselves:

Many here on ESB, apparently, did not, and allowed themselves to be suckered by Gary Shaw. They (Shaw and Dawson) believed they could fool you, the same way they fooled many when they decided to cower away from Adrian Diaconu and his left hook last year. Having been fooled by Shaw myself before, I knew better than to take his press release at face value.

Tavoris Cloud has been Dawson's mandatory for nearly nine months. Had Shaw and Dawson wanted to fight him, they could have. But they don't want to -- much as they did not want to fight mandatory Diaconu last year -- and they wanted you to buy their BS so as to protect Chad's reputation, such as it is.

In a day and age when the public decries the Klitschko brothers for not unifying the heavyweight belts, Chad Dawson spits in the boxing fans' eyes by dropping titles anytime he sees fit. Last year, it was the WBC strap. Now, the IBF.

All that's left is something called the "IBO" belt, a meaningless trinket that currently is serving as Dawson's figurative reputational fig leaf over his privates while his cowardly form stands naked in his emperor's excuse clothes.

Instead of fighting other young lions, Dawson wants to rematch 40 year olds. First Antonio Tarver, now Glen Johnson. And don't forget Dawson calling out greybeards Hopkins and Calzaghe, either.

Here's another half-truth -- the public doesn't want to see a Dawson-Cloud fight. Maybe they don't. But they also apparently didn't want to see the Tarver fights, either. Those two fights -- combined -- reportedly only sold 2,000 tickets. In Las Vegas.

The point is this -- NOBODY cares about Chad Dawson. He's not marketable, he's not a star, he hasn't got "it." The best win of his career came against a man so weight-drained (Adamek) that in that man's next professional fight -- just four months later -- he weighed 23.75 lbs. more (of muscle) and he has since gone on to win the cruiserweight championship.

If you are a fighter no one cares about, you have two options (at least in this instance): Fight a bunch of geriatric no-hopers while dropping your belts and losing a ton of face among boxing fans or man-up, keep your belts, face the top competition that isn't over 35 and earn some respect, and possibly a few paying fans, for your troubles.

A man who has employed the formula I just mentioned is, coincidentally, Tomasz Adamek, the best name on Dawson's ledger. Adamek defeated both Steve Cunningham and Johnathon Banks, in exciting fights, and in the process has earned recognition and increased paydays.

This does not seem to be the way of Dawson and Shaw, however. They are more Floyd Mayweather (cherrypicker) than Bernard Hopkins (who, at 44 years old, is still The Ring's LHW champion and doesn't need to prove anything to anyone), more Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz (heartless) than Adamek.

Because of this, and his cautious style, no one cares about Chad Dawson. As much as I respect Glen Johnson, his 40 year old name being repeated on Dawson's ledger will only, and correctly, deepen the skepticism the boxing public has towards Dawson and his mettle.

In tough economic times like this, why spend your hard-earned money on Gary Shaw's shell game?

As for Shaw, his being caught in a misstatement about HBO's willingness to air a fight with Cloud is the latest embarrassment. Anything he says from here on out must be treated as suspect until verified.

Chad Dawson could be a great fighter. As of today, he is a belt-dropping, cowardly fraud who couldn't draw flies.

And now you know why.

You got it, and you probably fell for it, as many did on the other thread that's linked.

And you all fell for it because you wanted to, just as Shaw was counting on. Sad.

If Shaw thought it wouldn't look like a duck of Cloud -- which it is -- he wouldn't have made the BS up about HBO not taking the fight. That was the hook, you and others were the fish, and Gary reeled you all in.

 

Your sophistic arguments are weak, and I've already dealt with them the last time this happened (Diaconu).

If Cloud is nothing and no one -- just a chump who beat some club fighters -- why won't Dawson fight him? Why has he done everything in his power to avoid him, just as he did with Diaconu?

Did you read the linked ESB article about how much hassle Shaw and Dawson went through to avoid Diaconu? If not, read it. Then you'll start to understand the level of fear involved.

I'll tell you why Sad Chad won't fight Cloud -- Tavoris (18 KO's in 19 fights) is too 'live' a threat for Chad, same as is Diaconu (killer left hook made for Chad's low left hand). Shaw and Dawson know about the tinfoil in Chad's jaw and they do not want to put him in with anyone who can throw hard for a sustained battle and have their guy exposed. So, take a guy (Johnson) who you know you can handle his power, who you already beat, and who is over 40 years old. And pretend you're doing it for the fans.

As I said, it's the cowardly way to do it, just like PBF cherrypicking, and it is no surprise at all when it comes to Dawson and Shaw. They're a joke, and that's a huge reason no one cares about Chad.

 

No. You're not thinking logically.

If HBO wanted to protect Dawson and Shaw, they don't sell him out in public like this. They just made Shaw, and Dawson, look like idiots. That's not how you protect an investment, particularly one with as poor a rep as Dawson has (he looked bad against Tarver the second time when it was hoped he would shine).

What likely happened is that Shaw thought everyone would be like konaman and buy his story without checking into it. Fortunately, the NY Daily News reporter actually decided to be a journalist and now Dawson and Shaw have been exposed. Again.

As I said in the first post, this wasn't hard to see coming. Everyone knew Dawson didn't want to fight Cloud, and they also knew what went down with Diaconu. Second verse, same as the first.
