Sadly, you may be right about Kessler :(

But we all know Froch will take the fight. Whatever Froch is, he's not a guy to duck anyone. You have to like that about him. Dawson likely schools him, but at least Froch has the energy to go all 12 and do so with vigor.

**** a Adrian Diaconu. I can't believe people are still lobbying Dawson to fight this bum. After Chris Henry almost beat him in his own backyard in Romania, you guys still wanna see Dawson school this midget? LOL gimme a break.. he had his chance.. if he didn't back out of so many fights due to injury, Diaconu would've fought Dawson already and lost, and we wouldn't even be discussing this midget right now.. oh well.. we'll just have to wait for Pascal to beat his ass then...

But you do have a valid point with Tavoris Cloud! :bbb He's been Dawson's mandatory for a year now... and still no fight. With Dawson vacating, it's clear Dawson wants no part of this young lion. Oh well.. I'm satisfied with Dawson vs Johnson 2. The first match was a great fight.

Seriously though paulfv, you'd rather see Dawson fight that Romanian midget than rematch Johnson?? :huh

    This thread is pretty amusing.

Truth is, there are only two criteria by which you can evaluate a fighter or promoter's decision to make a fight:

    1) The purse

    2) The exposure and potential marketability boost

The best combination of those two factors is the fight any combatant should pursue, and if they can't get that guy then move down to the next in line.

There obviously are different considerations for green fighters who need development, but at the world class level Point 1 and Point 2 are all that matter.

And from that perspective, Dawson's career has been managed perfectly. He took on Ian Gardner in a step-up fight, stepped up to Harding (Ring No. 10 at the time), was set for an eliminator against Stipe Drews (who backed out), then fought Adamek for the title. All good so far, right?

The next big fight Dawson thought he could get was against Antonio Tarver, and he pursued him. Tarver kept avoiding him, though, because he wanted to see if he could land a bigger fish.

Dawson got tired of waiting for Tarver and agreed to fight Diaconu, who pulled out. Dawson disposed of some C-fighters, fought Johnson (best of 1 and 2 at that time) and then finally got Tarver, who based on Points 1 and 2 was the better matchup over Diaconu (because Dawson/Diaconu would have been off American TV).

So now he is contractually bound to rematch Tarver and gets overpaid for a rematch on HBO no one wants to see.

And now, Johnson is the fight that offers the best money and best exposure, irrespective of age or belts.

No one has refuted anything about points 1 and 2, and until that happens all of this "fraud" stuff is nonsense. A promoter's job is to adhere to those two principles, balancing short- and long-term, and to this point Dawson has been managed well. He just isn't a draw.

At 175, the top of the food chain for Dawson is Calzaghe, then Hopkins, then Johnson. JC and BH are the biggest fights available, but they don't want him based on 1 and 2 (not meeting a financial minimum, in that instance). I don't blame them.

Johnson, who arguably beat Dawson, is the third guy on the list. Diaconu and Cloud show up with a bunch of other people no one has ever heard of. Chad also expressed interest in Kessler at 168, but was rebuffed.

This being a fan board, people want to evaluate fighters based on a third point: competition/legacy.

But that isn't how the game is played, nor has it ever been. And even from that perspective, Dawson is doing better against a proven (if aged) warrior in Johnson who arguably beat him rather than taking on an unknown quantity in Cloud.

This is not the same scenario as Mayweather taking Baldomir over Margarito, a fight that would have exceeded Baldomir on the two material points. There's simply no way to make that argument against Dawson.

At least make a point without insulting somebody you wouldn't talk that way if only you 2 would be in the room.

When was he going to fight Cloud? He was bound to rematch Tarver, and he stands to make more money and gain visibility against Johnson, who happens to be the toughest opponent he can face.

Or maybe Cloud really is that good, but is it unreasonable for him to stay active and win a big fight or two to earn his shot? Cloud should take a stay-busy fight and then meet the winner of Diaconu/Pascal. That would be a nice Showtime main event and create a meaningful bout for Dawson/Johnson.

The biggest problem at 175 is that Hopkins is holding himself above everyone in the division except Calzaghe, who is somewhat retired and in any event is holding himself above Hopkins. It's going to be very difficult for Dawson, Cloud, Diaconu or anyone else to gain public approval with Hopkins still in the picture.

I wish Bernard would move north to cruiser and allow 175 to get on with its business.

Feel free to elaborate. Showtime said it wasn't going to carry the fight.

If we are talking 2007 then Showtime.
If we are talking 2008 then ESPN Classic and/or donkingtv.com

Okay, fair enough. I believe my bitter feelings for Diaconu stems from his fans on this forum. There's a bunch of them. Especially months ago, they used to come on here, overhype Diaconu because he beat the worthless Rico Hoye.. and they'd call out Dawson and say he's a "a fur-coat wearing ******" and that Diaconu would knock him out and that he's the white Mike Tyson at 175.. LOl.. I just laugh at these delusional *******s. That's probably why I don't care for Diaconu or his dumb fans..

Yes, Showtime was going to carry the first fight, when Diaconu pulled out.

Showtime was not going to carry the second fight in Romania, and a major network fighter isn't going to drop down to the ESPN or internet-only level when Showtime is bending over backwards to air Dawson/Tarver, the only fighter of the three with any name recognition.

    Yeah,sure,whatever,I'm not going into it.
People watched Diaconu vs Hnery on donkintv.com,Adamek had no problem to go on ESPN Classic, whatever.
Point is it would have been on american tv.
