I'm talking for myself obviously. And yes I sometimes insult fighters but nevr just ''**** X'' or something like that.
Of course you're not going into it, because you can't win the argument. There is no logical basis for a guy fighting a Diaconu in Romania on the internet or ESPN when he could fight a Tarver on Showtime. It's silly to suggest otherwise. It's fine if you want to see Dawson/Diaconu, and I'd rather have seen that fight than Dawson/Tarver II tired), but this is a business, not a game.
It should be a combination of both, obviously. Are you saying Dawson would've made more money fighting Diaconu on some website than the much more recognized fighter in Tarver on Showtime? :huh
Ehh... so the 300k difference wasn't enough for Dawson to fight a lesser-known fighter in hostile territory of Romania than fighting the recognized champion in America.. pretty obvious choice no?
It's a combination of both, as explained above. Dawson parlayed Tarver into a rematch on HBO that resulted in him getting overpaid for what that fight was worth. There's no way HBO would have aired Dawson/Diaconu II under the same circumstances, and he may not have gotten as good a deal in the first place. He needed Tarver.
We'd need a I for that With the rematch clause it was more like Tarver lured Dawson in a fight than viceversa.
But he got a $4M HBO contract on the basis of the Tarver win. Something tells me he wouldn't have gotten that fighting Diaconu off-tv in Romania. If Diaconu wanted Dawson so badly, he shouldn't have cancelled the fight because of a bruise on his hand.
Again, not off-tv. DIaconu wanted the fight badly, that's why Dawson vacated. Pretty sure that wasn't just a ''bruise on his hand'' too.
The news reports said he pulled out with "a contusion on his third and fourth metacarpals." In layman's terms, that means he had a bruise on his hand. It is what it is. People who want their shot so badly have walked into the ring with a lot worse. Not off-tv? The networks had expressed no interest. It's not like Diaconu-Henry was televised either, it was over free internet, and the fighters didn't make an extra red cent from it. Hell, like 1/3 of the fight cut out on the feed even. Anyway, with respect to Dawson-Cloud, Shaw has now said Dawson would have made $150k to fight Cloud versus $800k for Johnson (presumably those are the amounts HBO offered). So while TECHNICALLY HBO would have televised the Cloud fight, they provided Dawson with a pretty massive disincentive to do so. “We asked for an exception to fight Glen Johnson on HBO and the IBF didn’t grant it. They want us to fight an opponent TV has no interest in. Chad could keep his belt if he’s willing to fight for $150,000 or earn $800,000 against a tougher opponent in a fight the media seems to want to see. At some point you have to make a business decision.’’ http://www.thesweetscience.com/boxing-article/6851/sure-tavoris-cloud-nice-guy-but/
Dawson vacated to take bigger, better fights. Let's not pretend like Dawson vacated because he was scared of Diaconu.. Let's not forget.. Dawson vs Diaconu was signed.. 2 weeks before fight night, Diaconu is the one who pulled out due to injury.. so I don't wanna hear anything from Diaconu fans about Dawson vacating to avoid Diaconu. Diaconu had his shot but he obviously didn't want it badly enough..
He was an underdog as it is,being injured was ridicolous to fight. Plus I read somewhere it was something related to musscle tissue. It was like going in there blindfolded.Plus he thought the fight would happen later on.
No,he vacated because Diaconu pushed for his chance which never came. Obviously Diaconu wanted it badly enough.
