He's taking the bigger payday - rather than fight a meaningless - unattractive mandatory. HBO wants him to fight Johnson and they are mainly the ones cutting the checks - so it's either fight Johnson on TV or fight a mandatory off TV.

Think you would have made the same decision.

i'm fine with it. i mean we complain when guys fight meaniless mandos instead top contenders and then we complain when they fight top contenders instead of mandos. Glen Johnson deserves the rematch more than this cloud guy deserves a shot

i'm happy man Dawson is still young and these old guys won't be there forever so he might as well fight them while they still have something left. Johnson is still one of the top5 LHW an thats what really matters

If he's looking to get a fight with Johnson then that's a great move. People were demanding that he gives a rematch to Johnson and he's doing that, nothing to complain about here.

You're talking business. Let's talk boxing. If Dawson fought 3 times a year, he could easily have fought Johnson AND his mandatory.

Cloud is not a meaningless mandatory. He's young, has good pop and is more dangerous for Dawson than Johnson and Tarver.

I'm OK with it, but he better face someone who's good in his next fight as well. While I have little doubt that he would beat Diaconu or Cloud, it's starting to look like a fishy pattern. I wouldn't call it cherrypicking though. Frankly, he's facing the best fighter available in the biggest fight available.

So says you. I'll agree with the first two statements. Considering Dawson nearly lost to Johnson the first time they fought, I think Johnson is plenty dangerous to Dawson. Dawson outboxes Cloud all day and night though. I guess Cloud would have a better chance of scoring the knockout than Johnson, but I don't think you've seen enough of Cloud if you think he's really more dangerous.

I should have specified I was talking about the KO. You're right about Dawson being a better technician.

No problem with it. A lot of people were screaming that Johnson got robbed and now he's going to settle it once and for all.

    It's a good fight.

If Cloud is any good he'll beat Woods and get a shot at Dawson in the future anyway.
