160 has not been a strong division for some time, and between the two of them, they have pretty well cleaned it out. Pavlik beat Zuniga and Zertuche, put the brakes on McKart's come back, and beat Miranda. Arthur beat Jantuah, Miranda, and Gevor. That does not leave a hell of a lot to choose from. That's all the more reason to make the fight, but I'm still not buying the "Arum is the bad guy" theory. One little tid bit of info we've all convenintly over looked today is this. When Arum first post poned Pavlik/Mora and said he'd try to reschedule for September, Sauerland/Abraham said a December/January date would be fine with them.
Whatever both do I just hope they do fight each other or at least plan for it with no bull**** excuses like "Be more popular" and "Drop your paper title". The last thing the division needs is more belts distributed.
The point is that there doesn't seem to be the money in the till to pay both guys at this point. AA has his demands and KP has his. You keep assuming this is all on Pavlik/Arum because Saurland puts out more press releases?
I'm not assuming, I'm following what's going on and when I see Pavlik and Arum both say that Abraham isn't popular enough and indirectly hint that he's a nobody only to go and fight Rubio and Mora then I know there's an issue. Complications always come into play when it comes to these things and this is getting old now that people don't give a **** what both parties say anymore unless it's an official announcement that it's on. That's the last thing this division needs especially when we do have two fighters who can put on an amazing fight for the public but is being postponed for various reasons/excuses. I would expect Arum and Pavlik to jump on this fight rather than play the wait game. After all they are the ones hurt from a recent loss they didn't see coming and Abraham has an undefeated record and a major win over Miranda in the US. Don't forget that despite all the namecalling Abraham gets for his choice of opponents Pavlik's second best win is Miranda right after Taylor. So it's not like Pavlik has an elite record or any close to it.
this guy is better comp than a washed up winky. Arum won't let AA get near Pavlik. Williams? are u serious. the kid has good skills but hes a knockout waiting to happen. strum only fights AAs leftovers.
enough with money crap excuse. Arum wants to maximize his profits on Pavlik, bottom line. AA would fight him in the ****ing street.
Bull ****. If that were true, this fight would be made. Pavlik and Arum have both hinted, but not given hard details, that AA wants a career payday out of this fight. I haven't heard AA or Saurland contradict that. I seem to remember AA offering to fight Sturm for nothing. Sturm took up his offer. Did we see that fight? Study up before you post your bull ****.
It is not a matter of "what happened", I am laughing at the notion that he "ducked" or "avoided" Lorenzo like you try to make it look like in the previous post.
Now this is a post for the ages! OH MY GOD! AA OFFERED STURM A CAREER HIGH PAYDAY TWICE, AND STURM DECLINED , PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF THE SPORT DON'T MAKE IT LOOK LIKE STURM WAS READY TO FIGHT AA EVER! atsch
Don't act like that last offer to Sturm by Abraham's promoter's was anything but a joke. They sent a notice to a newspaper saying they offered Sturm a fight without even actually ever telling Sturm about it. Sturm said he wanted the fight but doesn't think AA really wants the fight and I agree with him. Don't put it all on Sturm. AA's people are good at fronting that they want certain fights but I think they're full of **** mostly. :rasta
I'm pretty sure this is historically correct. AA shot his mouth off and made the offer. Sturm accepted. There were claims that the career high payday was media only, but Tom_T said that wasn't so, so I accept that. Anyone that doesn't believe this fight is about the bottom line right now is nuts. All indications are Pavlik and Abraham want a few million each for this fight. That is a tough purse to sell for this fight right now. If anyone believes this fight is on the general radar of the average ticket/PPV buying fan right now, they are nuts. That is the problem. Arum did a split venue for Cotto and Pavlik to come up with two gates on one PPV to make their 'comeback' fights possible and each guy took less than they normally get. The general public idiot that buys tickets and PPV at least know who Mora is. That is the ONLY reason behind that fight. The only way this fight happes is if HBO or Showtime steps up and are willing to put up some money and do the promotion. I've been hoping Showtime's interest in Taylor means they are going to push HBO some. Other than that, the gate + PPV isn't going to pay either fighter what they want/deserve for this fight.
So Sturm accepted the fight and AA rejected it, to be more clear, right or wrong? Is that what you are implying?:huh
NO, I am saying the fight was never actually offered to Sturm in the first place. It's was a total joke that was leaked to a newspaper. Nothing official was even offered.
