Roach's Plan for Paquiao's Continued Success

I remember Roach saying that they probably wont fight at 147 ever again.

They only jumped from 1 fight at 135, straight to the agreed 147 "catchweight" (both sides met in the middle) just to have the chance to fight Oscar and earn big bucks, but they werent really planning to stay there for long.

 

What's your beef w/ Roach, then? He's instrumental in making Manny a complete boxer and the #1 P4P in the world. Isn't it but right that his word carries more weight and influence than anyone? Manny listens to him like a son to a father. They have a good and fuitful relationship. It is just fair that Roach enjoys Manny's confidence because of what he has done to him. Manny earned the status that he has at the moment because of Roach. Anything that Roach does at the moment of Pac's career is for his own welfare and protection. He is like a surrugate father to him, more than a coach and trainer.



Again, you repeated this statement, "I don't want to diminish Pacquiao's recent wins in any way shape or form." and in the same breath you said. " It is alot easier to beat a guy that is post-IV and barely able to defend himself that it is to fight an opponent at his best.

Precisely because that's what was agreed upon in the contract.

Are you saying Pac should fight Oscar in 154 to minimize his so-called "advantage". Really, you're a prime idiot. Pac is a lightweight and he had to jump two weight divisions to fight a bigger and taller dela Hoya.

What's wrong w/ Roach protecting his fighter's health and safety? As a former boxer, he knows what he's doing? Pac says he's staying at l40 and if they want to fight him, they should go down and fight at a catchweight. What's wrong with that? He's the bigger draw at the moment.

It's not at l40. It's at a catchweight, dumbass! 147 is too much for Manny fighting natural welterweights.

 

ODLH was definitely slow in his fight with Pac, but it wasn't much different from the ODLH in Floyd. The reason Pac looks so much more dominant in his match-up with ODLH was because of his style and abilities. Pac move in, out and circle ODLH while landing alot of effective shots to keep ODLH from cutting him off and pinning him to the corner or ropes. If ODLH was able to push Pac to the ropes or corner as often as he did Floyd then Pac might have bigger trouble than Floyd because he lack the elusiveness of slipping punches like Floyd. Sometimes one fighter may look so bad is from the cause of the other fighter being that great.

If someone who was watching Pac vs. Barrera and didn't know who Barrera was, one might have though Barrera was a B rated fighter.

ODLH was stiff as hell in this fight but made it competitive by cutting off Floyd and getting him to the ropes where he gets to work some ineffective hits. ODLH jabs were the only punches that was fast enough to use to land on Floyd outside of the ropes.

He tried in many occasions in the 2 rounds he was in the pin Pac to the ropes, he even succeeded a few times while punching his opponent to the back on the head with many blows. What you fail to realize is what Pac did, he defended himself and then threw a few punches at Hatton and spins him around to get back into the middle of the ring. If you think Hatton didn't bull-rush Pac then you didn't understand why he got knockdown multiple times including the knock out. His people was complaining he didn't follow the fight plan which was to keep his gaurd up and shouldn't be bullrushing into those right hooks and the massive left.

This part I am not too sure about. Perhaps being undefeated and such would have made him a tougher fight, or it may have made him careless and ram his head into the turnbuckle.

I don't think Pac is at ODLH in the popularity category either, but he is one of the top and so is Floyd for his various reasons. Both sides are just playing games to suit their negotiation weighing, which is almost a must or else they be pushovers at the table.

I get annoyed by the hypes too but it is part of the game, I prefer to focus on the fights instead.

Every team would do this if they could, as long as the best fight eventually get made, I got no complaints.

 

pac was 4 pounds below 147. barely a welterweight and pac looked bloated with excess muscles that his frame looked unnatural. yes pac could very well give cotto and shane a match at 147 but if your opponent outweighs you 12 or more pounds during fight night this is something that anyone's coach needs to worry. pac would certainly fight them even withis handicap but roach has to his job.

floyd maybe but pac is the draw over cotto and mosley. again pac weigh-in just 143 during the oscar fight. oscar had conceeded 3 pounds to get this fight done. for roach this is enough.

because they are the one being sought after by these 147 pounders. floyd has no problem going down to fight a featherweight at 144 catchweight.

 

Did Pac look bloated against Ricky?

 

Roach is just doing his job as Pac's coach, trainer, manager, confidante, and surrogate father. Anyone in his position would do anything to protect his fighter. Arum is also doing his job as Pac's promoter and businessman. If he is motivated by money, it is because boxing is business and entertainment. Promoters like Arum will always look for the best fights for his fighters in terms monetary rewards and fame. I will not bedgrude them if they exploit other possibilities to pit fighters to suit their business and provide entertainment to the public.

 

if this fight is at a catchweight of let's say 143 or 144, shane or cotto would not be ballooning up to 160. maybe around 155 to 157 max only. you have to consider also that pac would just be 148 on fight night so he would not be balooning when he fights at 147.

 

Roach also said in an interview that because Manny's on his last couple of fights, he'd like him to get the biggest possible fights for the biggest possible prize money. And since they are at the top of the perch right now, they hold all the aces. Every big name will be added on the short list, but Team Pacquiao will be calling the shots, at what weight they'll want it to happen. If one of the candidates say "No way", then, sorry, off to the next one on the list.

They have all the options now.

 

did i say the ricky hatton fight? pac looked unnatural with his frame in the oscar fight. a sign of a small man bulking-up just to make-up some pounds. at 140 with hatton, he looks ok though he still lacks size, he mades it up with his strength.

He holds all the aces because he's most probably the most recognisable name in boxing right now, across the board, among casual sports fans and people who buys tickets and PPV matches.

Of course Cotto is big in PR, well known all over.

Floyd is also well known to boxing fans, and casual watchers have heard of him and seen him win against Oscar and Hatton and had a WWE exhibition match.

Hatton's huge in the UK, and is known among boxing fans all over.

Shane's well known among boxing fans, but even in his prime, he wasnt very big and wildly popular among the general public.

But the casual boxing fan/all around sports fan has seen and heard about this guy Manny Pacquiao TKO Oscar dela Hoya, the Golden boy, (WOW!) KO Hatton, and heard that he KO'd Mexican legends like Barrera, Morales (relative household names) and they said he started at a really light weight and fought bigger and bigger guys and he likes to brawl and knock people out. And the boxing experts call him the best fighter in the world today.

He's got a story behind him. He'll be the main attraction. Not to say that his big name opponent will not bring their share of viewers, because they will also, of course.

 

You're the only one saying Roach/Pac are the new De la Hoya.

But I disagree with u. They have all the aces. Before the Hatton fight, they already have the aces. Cotto and Mosley, even JCC jr. were already calling out Pac. The Hatton win just added another ace.
