LONDON -- Marco Antonio Barrera has been denied a rematch with Amir Khan by the WBO despite a clash of heads before the English fighter won.
Barrera's promoter, Don King, had hoped the "tainted" lightweight bout in March at Manchester would be declared a no-contest. But the British Boxing Board of Control cleared the referee on Friday of making a mistake by not stopping the bout in the second minute of the first round when their heads collided.
The Mexican received a huge cut on the left side of his head, and the ring doctor in Manchester later stopped the contest in the fifth round. Had the fight been stopped in the fourth round, it would have been declared a no-contest to automatically force a rematch.

That fight was one of the most crooked things i ever seen in the sport.

That cut looked the same as it did in the 1st round but the fight gets stopped in the 5th for it.

Dave Parris is worser than Joe Cortez.

That wasn't even a win, it was a disgrace. You know there is something wrong when the damn COMMENTATOR realises the cut can't be worked on immediately after it happens and no doctor shows up in the corner to check.

You think a rematch would be a different fight? :think

I see the samething happening, Khan to fast and strong for MAB, maybe stopping him late TKO.

Maybe, Barrera wobbled him several times. Who's to say he wouldn't ko Khan with one punch?

The point is Barrera was there to lose. He was in on it. He sold his name and status.

how is that the same thing.

Same thing would be Barrera getting a massive cut from an accidental headbutt in the first round, corrupt ref stopping the fight in the 5th

You can't say that, Barrera didn't even get a chance to perform and was busted wide open with a headbutt. That cut was too deep that even the commentator admitted it CAN'T be worked on right after it happened.

The fight should have been stopped and ruled a NC.
