The fact that this was not thoroughly explored and concluded upon earlier in the process--I'm talking contractual negotiations even--reflects very poorly on the promotional firms. It's just another travesty in the WBA section of the heavyweight division.
at least u won't have to see your hero get another gift :yep:yep and Chagaev should be forced to retire. not only is he a walking biohazard, he's going blind in one eye :-(
How could they not find a replacement opponent? Meehan and Brewster did not want the fight? This is pathetic.
On 24 hours notice for a pittance? Of course not. Why take a title fight they aren't prepared for and risk losing and putting themselves out of the frame for another shot in the future. I agree it's a shame but the blame should not be placed on Brewster or Meehan here.
Meehan and Brewster should have took this with both hands but they let it slip. I think their poor opposition on the undercard is the reason they probably didn't bother training.
I think if most of us were offered a HW title fight in this situation we would take it, which is what Meehan is doing. I'd be interested if Meehan beat Valuev, he has a good skillset and could pull it off.
Meehan sucks. The last time he put on a good show was when he had Lamon Brewster hurt and almost down in Brewsters follow up fight after knocking out Wlad Klitschko back in April of 04. After Meehan lost a very close decision to Brewster, he chose to take on Rahman on the "Night of the Heavyweights" card, where he was completely destroyed by Haseem Rahman in November or December of 04. Even if he pulled off the upset victory, it would just further show how terrible the division truly is.
