marquez land have landed more clean shots but pacquiao is the harder puncher...it's not just effective punching, but the power of punches differs from boxer to boxer just as chin and body resistance to punch..

one clean punch by pacquiao may did more damage than two clean punch of marquez...it's really subjective

    Very True...

it is indeed subjective. But I'm just saying.. that in my opinion.. in Round1..

Most of the shots from both were misled, not-clean & landed upon gloves.

Pacquiao landed 2 semi-clean shots (that will have gone down as power-shots, and yes technically were -- straight-left n that-- but didn't land flush & weren't hard.. moving Marquez back or stunning him).. whereas Marquez landed the best shot of the round flush.. straight-right.. !

after that there was a little exchange towards the end iirc.. marquez responded to the body.

but i gave that to Marquez... close but the big flush right-hand seals it.

if only manny didn't have such a good chin... Juan Manuel rattles him briefly a few times later on in the fight but Pacquiao recovers so fast & just won't go down!!!

Did you read what I wrote, Iole said he made a mistake giving JMM the 1st round. Borges justifies robbery because Iole and Rafael gave JMM the 1st round, but Iole said, looking back at it, Pac should've won the round.

    Some gifs:

You have to take audio into account on this one.

Again take into account the audio doesn't look much, but sounds solid.

Another point, although JMM looks like he connected at the end, it hit Pac's arm.

Here clearly the best punch of the round.

I thought pac never landed a punch other than the punches that caused the knock downs. the problem is his punches are fast and when you do it in slow motion that and thats the time you'll only see his other punches land. You'll also wonder why is the other boxers face changing.

Exellent post, and I'll add that JMM was effectively scoring on a consistent basis round after round, while Pac did his most effective work alot farther between.

....call it what you will, but Asero's assumption that the bigger name in Pacquiao had a lesser burden of proof, while JMM the lesser name had more burden of proof, is absolutely 100% correct.

I read your post clearly.......thats why I called it a good post, not exellent!:D

....and Borges and Rafael did not rely on iole for their opinions, but quoted respected boxing journalist to back up and solidify the press row feelings.......
....Iole changing his mind and away from his initial gut feeling and impressions, does nothing to show that Borges and Rafael would do the same.....

More often than not, your first impressions are the correct one's!:yep

i thought that jmm got it when i watched it live but after rewatching it, i agree that pac took this round, clearly. pac is way more active, initiates the action and has more punches connected. though jmm has the one clearest punch of the round, its not enough to steal it from pac. all the 3 judges are correct on this one.

JMM round, wasnt a lot in it but he definitely connected with by far the best punch of the round

JMM fight aswell, of that there isnt much doubt imo.

JMM has only one clear punch to show, all other factors and consideration goes to pacquiao

Great Post! :good I also gave the first round to pacman the first time I saw the fight. He landed more shots compared to jmm. Even though jmm landed the clearest shot in the round, it wasnt enought to justify giving the round to jmm.

too many people score rounds based on the HBO replays and the commentators.

Fact is that even when Marquez landed that one big right hand, Pacquiao hit him with a right hook for his troubles.

it hard to see manny's punches..It happens so fast..i never realized how effective is his combination in the 2:27 mark
