Tis true, but you must keep in mind that Gene gradually wore down Basilio in their first encounter with a dedicated body attack while boxing of the backfoot, a strategy that the far more crude and unskilled Mayorga is very unlikely to employ. More than likely Mayo will stand and trade and he will be the one that is worn down thru Carmen`s own body attack and get stopped late with the ref stepping in to save a helpless Mayo against the ropes.

 

Basilio by stoppage.

 

Basilio would take over and stop Mayorga late in a very exciting but fairly one sided fight.

 

Basilio was a tough man to deal with on the inside.

Mayorga on the other hand uses his chin as defense for punches.

What I would have loved is a prime Mayorga vs Berto.

 

people have made excellant points in this thread as people discount Basilio as a face first brawler but he was skilled on the inside and could slip punche very well he really got down low.

 

mayorga by murder, inside three rounds. berto's punches will bounce off el matador, and mayorga's will go straight through berto.

Mayorga is rather wild, but Basilio shouldn't have much trouble slipping under, attacking the midsection and ultimately wearing Ricardo down. Onion farmer by mid to late rounds stoppage.
