But this guy doesn't have a clue about boxing so why does his opinion matter?

Because he is the one that gets boxing on the BBC instead if dodgy web streams.

The point is it cheapens the entire sport. Some boxing fans wonder why the sport doesn't get the profile it deserves anymore. Fights like this for a 'world' title are the reason.

As I said previously, this isn't a personal issue with either fighter - it's a short career, they should take what they can get. But the sport is worse for it. Much worse.

I thought Khan fighting for a world title was bad enough, this is just insane.

rob i have said on eastside many times now "LIMOND'S MANAGEMENT AT NO TIME WERE OFFERED 25K FROM LEE OR ANY REPRESENTATIVE OF LEE'S" now even you must understand that rob, limond would fight lee no problem whatsoever if offered so,lee has no proof whatsoever of such an offer.if he as prove it!

Much as I like Amir, Willie Limond gave me one of my best boxing moments in years when he nearly KOed him. With a bit of luck.....
Of course the title is a daft one but that`s not Limond`s fault. But now he is the champion he can`t duck challengers even if he wanted to, which I`m sure he doesn`t.
Well done on your victory, Willie. You`re well respected in Scottish boxing and that respect is hard earned and well deserved.

    Who gives a ****?

As long as talented young guys aren't ****ing around with this title I don't care about it. For domestic fighters..if it gets them a little extra cash..good for them.

If Willie was offered a British, Commonwealth or Euro title fight he would drop the WBU belt in an instant.

But he hasn't been offered those fights and it doesn't seem like he will be offered those fights in the near future (unfortunately) so he has decided to go down the WBU path.

the end of the day Willie needs to make some money like the rest of us and defending a WBU belt will earn him a bit more ££££ than fighting a non-title 10 rounder. Unfortunately, that's just how boxing works.

Regardless of the belt or sanctioning body... if a fighter has the right people with him, can sell tickets, it is all about making cash common sense..... Pro Boxing is not just a sport... it is a Brutal Business......."You don't get what you deserve, you only get what you negotiate!" :yep:yep

i read in the article he had been boxing for 24 years that in itself deserves recognition and if it comes in the form of the wbu belt then so be it i cant see how anyone can begrudge a guy this or the media attention it brings after devoting his life to the game.

It's been said time and again that the purpose of Willie fighting for the WBU belt was to raise his profile, put him in contention for big titles and to earn a bit of cash. He's never claimed it to be anything else. Unfortunately Rob Palmer continues to ignore this fact and continually starts up stupid threads like this.

I would of said nothing if Willie had not decalred himself a world champion.

And it wasnt the WBU that made Hatton that cash it was having a good promoter.

To be honest i think McAlister is a disgrace to boxing as he fights for the WBU and claims to be a world champion so i should probably believe you...............................oh wait
