One of my favorite aspects of the sport, making it so much different from all others. Some good examples... Maragrito/Mosley Limon/ Chung Il Choi Mayorga/Forrest Jeffires over Fitz and Corbett Hamsho/Benitez
Good choices, but I think Margarito-Cotto would fit your criteria better than Mosley-Margarito since Shane's the more skilled of the two.
Greg Haugen was a good example of this, imo. It was mainly his toughness and conditioning that won him over either physically superior, or vastly talented opposition.
:huh:huh I don't think too much of Barkley's skills. Duran was old and smaller, but a master in there with his skills.
Vito Antufermo in his 1st fight with Hagler...I did not think Hagler did enough to win the title but either way Vito showed the will and made the fight very uncomfortable for the much more skilled Hagler but then again Vito was effective and not skilless at that
Barkley was most certainly not known for his skill but he did look quite good against Duran even in losing. It was more of a case of will and skill overcoming a huge difference in size and strength though.
Most of these guys have skills in there own right, it was not like Marciano had Will alone to beat Walcott, he had the punch, defenses skills for the style and strength to carry his bombs in the late rounds. Will didnt do that.
I can see where you are coming from, but I always put down Haugen as a good cutie. Britain for many years in the 70s-90s relied on these type of fighters. Jim Watt was not without skill, but his will and good boxing head (in more ways than one:hey), very often was the difference in his late career title reign. Dennis Andries was struggling to prove himself the best 175lber in Britain in the early 80s. But amazing will power turned him into a genuine top five light Heavyweight from the mid 80s to the early 90s. And of course Jeff Harding deserves mention as well. Colin Jones was teak tough and gave prime Ice man hell, twice.
