Another part of the discussion, which comes back to the art and skill point, is whether the guy getting tied up is actively making an effort to break free. When you see a guy trying to pull his arms free while the holding fighter has a grip on his forearm/ elbow, you know the ref needs to do something about it.

Shane was right on the brink at points against Margarito, but Margo hardly fought him off at all.

 

Berto did hold like a ***** and he deserves to be criticized. B/c he held just so he does not get hit in the gut. But he was in a back and forth war in which he did not hold in his last fight so you can cut him a little slack. He does not have good defense but the ref should of took a point and made a fight out of it. Cintron held for no reason but he is just soft and dont like to get hit.

 

Cintron didn't hold enough to mess the fight up for me, and actually fought his way out of some inside exchanges with Angulo without resorting to it. Berto gets the gold star not just for flopping on Urango dozens of times with no purpose but to smother him, but for giving Urango the only chances he had to hit him by continuing to go in for the clinch repeatedly despite the fact Juan couldn't touch him on the outside.

 

Berto definitely disgraced himself with this kind of performance. I hope someone taps that a** next time he fights so he doesn't keep making money like that... Anyway time for him to man-up and go up in comp.

 

its always been Freddy. you gotta know when to clinch. Mosley was real slick with Margarito, he knew Margarito does most of his work on the inside so Mosley tied his ass up in the inside. plus theres no way in hell you can go 12 rounds and not clinch once, its humanily impossible

clinching has always been a part of Boxing. There is a huge difference between what say John Ruiz does and Cintron or Berto. Hell, Ali held and clinched more than anyone sans Ruiz and you do not hear people complaining. Look at how Bernard Hopkins fought Joe Calzaghe. It was a damn disgrace with all the clinching, holding, grabbing and wrestling he did yet nobody said a thing they called it "strategic" and "crafty".

Anyone that can't see a difference in what Ruiz does and Cintron or Berto knows nothing about Boxing and is blind.
