Top 50 Dark Horses

    What fighters are undoubtely among the top 50-75 all time and yet are rarely mentioned?

    How about Jack "Nonpareil" Dempsey? One of the most admired of his time, almost forgotten today.

    Tommy Gibbons? Debately the only other man to beat Tunney besides Greb, and Gibbons also beat Greb himself.

    Billy Miske? Knocked out heavyweights Fred Fulton and Willie Meehan almost back to back in one round a piece. Miske was nearly on his death bed by this time. He also beat the likes of Gibbons and took Dempsey to a draw.

    Maxim? Beat both the middleweight and heavyweight champions of the world. Quite the accomplishment.

    Agnott? Took Pep's 0 and registered some other great wins.

    Very much so.

    Do you feel McGovern legitmately knocked out Gans? As Janitor said, the weight difference there would make that a feat almost unequaled in bosying history.

    In Tommy's last fight. Tho the record shows KO12 for Tunney Russell once heard Gibbons won. And that's all she wrote.

    I actually meant Tommy Loughran. I get the two mixed up.

    The more credible papers of the time were for Loughram in their NC fight.

    Holman Williams deserves a shout, he started at lightweight winning the 'Negro LW Title' there, went all the way to LHW with wins over greats like Archie Moore, Burley, Cocoa Kid, Lloyd Marshall and other top contenders like Booker, Leto, Chase, Wade many of these he fought/beat multiple times. He had close fights with Cerdan and Lamotta at the age of 34 and 160 fights into his career. All in all his career was: won 146 (KO 36) + lost 30 (KO 3) + drawn 11 = 188 fighting at a very high level for the most of it.

    On topic Booker and Chase are some underrated kingpins themselves

    two boxers that i think deserve a mention

    -pascual perez

    rarely rarely mentioned but great fighter winning both olympic gold and was the flyweight best for four years.

    -beau jack

    tough world champion that beat many good and great fighters, may have had the record of times a fighter fought in a main event at madison square garden.
