FLOYD n ROY are 2 ATG's that shoot themselves in the foot

Gotta agree with you here homie...both these cats had the perfect opportunities to really shake up ATG P4P top ten lists..and they turned them down...Floyd still can...He should be still in good shape to do things...but my guess is,he won't.

Roy Jones IMHO...is the greatest physically gifted fighter to ever step into the ring...bar none...IMO,Jones had the physical abilities to beat anyone from 160 - 190lbs..he was that gifted.Even P4P king,and the most revered fighter in history...Sugar Ray Robinson...would have to pull something extraordinary to beat a prime Roy Jones...which was around 160-168.Roy had the ability to KO every fighter he ever met....including the ones he did'nt...Benn,Eubank,DM,and yes..Joe Calzaghe.The cat just never dared himself.The underying factor being fear to lose...same as Mayweather...Floyd is fighting the fights he can win..never the big challenges...Even tho' IMO,Floyd was never as good as recent P4P greats...SRL,Duran,Hearns,Benitez,SweetPea,etc..Good chance that he could lose to all...Roy Jones on the other hand...I find it hard to give any fighter in those divisions anything more than a 50% chance..puncher's chance at that.

Their egos and fears,have mos def hurt their P4P status.

Both tought they already achieved everything there was to achieve when they got to the top of the pound for pound list and stopped taking on the best and started to care only about money.

that being said fraud is much worse cause he had a lot of good fighters around his weight that he couldve fought while Roy didnt have manny options.

 

For all their talent, both Floyd and Roy have been a bit stingy with their incredible abilities. I wanted to see Floyd systematically clean out the Welterweights, and Roy take on Lennox Lewis. Instead , Floyd started acting like a snotty prom queen, addicted to attention and demanding more, while Jones abandoned his heavyweight experiment only half finished. Although it's not over for Floyd yet, he always seems to chose to fight anyone except who I really want him to fight.

 

Do people think that everybody wants to face a Floyd Mayweather or a Roy Jones Jr and risk losing badly? Look at Dariusz Michalewski, I blame him not Roy for not making that fight happen. Even as Brit, the US is the mecca of boxing, it's where all the money fights happen and all the big stars fight. RJJ shoudn't of had to go to Germany, Dariusz should of gone to him.

 

Good post. Roy only began to test himself after he lost for the first time......By then his career was winding down. Wow - what physical gifts though....A big win over JMM and the winner of Pac/Mosley IMO gets Floyd to an all time status slightly higher than Roy....

 

How can you call Floyd and ATG? Roy I will accept, but not Floyd.

Im sure Roy is very aware of the fact that he collected wrongfully stripped titles at LHW.

When you cannot realise that a guy with great ability who ranks up well H2H, wins 6 belts in 5 different weight divisions from 130-154, and has wins on his record like Corrales, Castillo, Hernandez, De La Hoya, Judah, Hatton, soon JMM etc isn't a great fighter.

I would call the top 100 fighters I could think of all-time-greats. Are you saying you wouldn't put Floyd in your top 100?

 

I think that asking Roy to take on Lennox would have been too much to ask. That is just too much size advantage to give away.

 

Floyd has already taken bigger risks than Jones ever did. Jones resume consists of Hopkins, Toney, and John Ruiz. It is pitiful. Jones refused to take risks and handpicked just about every single fight he had. Roy never beat a unified, linear, or undisputed champion in his whole career. PBF has done that.
