De La Hoya moved up and down weight classes throughout his career taking on all comers, is there anyone anybody can think of he ducked ? Personally I think De La Hoya deserves credit for taking on the best.
remember that winky, in his tuxedo, personally went to mosley room on the eve of his fight to personally thank him for the chance to have a big fight..oscar didn't give him that opportunity...Wright earns $750,000 that time..
Every boxer ducked sum1 thats like saying jones shudve faced benn, eubank... sometimes fite's dnt hapen due to money... Atleast de la hoya got Hopkins, Tito, Mosley, Pacman, Floyd, Gatti, Jcc jst 2 name few on his rec.
The word "ducked" is such a harsh word. Sturm ducking Abraham, Ottke ducking Calzaghe are the most recent acts of "ducking" that I have witnessed. I just hope Pac doesn't duck Floyd. I had to throw that in there lol. Dlh probably could've fought Forrest, but since he fought Ike, Tito, Vargas, and Hop, I can't find a legit reason why he could be accused of ducking anyone.
The thread is about someone that Oscar ducked. He clearly ducked Winky, regardless of whether or not you think the fight would've been boring.
Fans and critics say Margarito was avoided by De La Hoya, but to be honest, he wasn't as well known back when De La Hoya was dominating. Pluss De La Hoya already fought better opposition in the past.
He ducked Azumah Nelson at 130 pounds, Winky Wright at 155 pounds and Vernon Forrest at 147 and 155 pounds.
Winky or Forrest have a case. But when you look at the big picture he fought Hops and Vargas around that time,so in my opinion he took the better fights.
I have that the other way around, with Warren offering the two belt man Ottka 1/3 and for lots less than Ottka was getting on German TV. Cal not answering Ottka the time he did call him out...Cal soon had a bad hand. All point of view.
