I went with whitikar. Part of being an excellent defensive fighter is being able to make your opponent pay after making him miss. Both guys could make you miss all day long but whitikar was better at being in a position to make you pay.

Whitaker's an atg, but Pep is generally considered the finest defensive fighter ever, and a top 10 overall fighter. He won his first 63 fights before a loss, and then went on to win another 73 in a row after that. You gotta have some serious offensive skills to pull that off. Still, you really can't say for certain. Different fighters, eras, opponents. Both ATGs.

Well there really isnt that much footage of Pep in his prime..not compared to Sweet Pea and not much considering the amount of fights Willie had.

From what I have seen I would give the edge to Pea...but I think its basically splitting hairs.

It's a tough call because of how much great quality footage their is of Pea working his magic, and how much the Pep legend can make up for it since his footage is both harder to find and not of a great quality. You couldn't go wrong with either, but I'd have to go with Whitaker by a hair partly for that reason.

Edit...didn't see that post Whatarock, I wasn't trying to completely rip off your points man:lol:

That was my whole point. I'd go with Pep. But I didn't want it to come across as disrespecting Whitaker, who is also an atg. But I guess I could have said it better. Angelo Dundee said Pep was the greatest fighter he ever saw, SRR and Ali included. It's hard to argue with that much experience and knowledge.

Arguably the 2 best defensive boxers ever, difficult to say for certain but I voted for Pep.

We have close to 0 footage of prime Willie Pep but even from the past prime footage he just looks like an absolute nightmare to hit with anything meaningful, his leg movement alone sends fighters the wrong way, he looks more slippery than an eel.
