One thing that should be mentioned also. I think people who have competed are more color blind than the general public because they have a deeper appreciation of what it takes to compete. Most of what I did was track which was pretty much an individual sport anyhow. If you were going up against a team that had a real prospect everyone would stop and watch that event and not to cheer for their team mate either. You stood there in awe and appreciation of the individual.

Thanks man. You do make a good point there in that everyone has a genetic framework they can work within and the sprinters one is a great example- the polar opposite of strongmen being mostly white makes for an interesting parallel. That fast twitch quality which makes for flashy combos is also a double edged sword as it relates to the fight game, because sprinters are fast twitch athletes. By nature, they'll be more explosive, but it comes with a price- doing that burns more energy and requires more oxygen, meaning that they'll never be cardio monsters in the boxing ring. Without carefully managing their stamina, they can easily fade in the 2nd half of fights.

Given that you've got a Kelly Pavlik avatar and are ,along with boo, in all likelihood Kelly's biggest fans on here, I don't have to mention the fast-twitch example I was going to use to illustrate that point. :D

White and blacks for the most part are even, its there class that determinds if there great are not. Upperclass people, outside of Jackson from the 1700's, dont have that fighter drive to make it to the top.

For evey Ali, Tyson, Robinson, Mayweather, Hopkins or Armstong there is a Baslilo, Marciano, Ross, Walker, Fitz or Greb thats just as great, and take out weight classes(Yeah no way in hell is Ali loseing to Walker) could in theory give each other a great match.

And that's exactly what it does, is diminish the accomplishment. Like I mentioned in my last post on this thread, genetic framework plays a part, but great athletes are still a dime a dozen. Even with multiple versions of belts out there, it's still a special accomplishment to win one because of how much hard work it takes to get to that level of skill, the environment to bring the best out of a fighter that's necessary, and some good luck to let it all come together. Even a "natural" like Roy has put so much time and work into the sport, that he's earned the success that came to him. It's not enough at the highest level to be "born" or "made"- you're either both, or you'll soon get beaten up by someone who is.

Wrong, Wrong, ,,,color blind athletes, not, i heard countless sports figures point out race, they talk **** about it all the time, an i am sure behind close doors, there **** talking that you can not believe. What did hopkins say, yep, "he would never lose to a white boy".
No question a great athlete is respected on alot more fronts when it comes to race, then your average athletes,,,You, more then likly you find more color blind fans, i mean how many white people do you see cheer for woods, lebron, jordan, an Randy Moss :)yep, but not cause he is black)...I like to believe in that beautiful world you just described, but is not true, but to me, should not be EXPECTED

P.S. There is a tennis program, in High schools, an tennis courts in parks, those clubs don't let my poor white ass in either:deal

What hurts the fast twitch guys is that they do well in the amateurs where scoring points count. They don't learn leverage. Simple physics tells you that a faster punch SHOULD be a harder punch, but to score those flashy combos that got them through the amateur ranks, they are not following through. They are pulling their punch too soon to get ready to throw the next punch in that flashy combo.

Well, it was an old example, but true about 1975. When the guy mentioned tennis that just came back to me. I don't have contact with those types of people any more so I don't know how it goes today.

Well, I guess my personal experience was different, but I still believe on the whole, athletes are more prone to be more color blind. You can always find exceptions.

    P.S. Tennis sucks. You win.
