Not another one Nazarov was highly regarded by hardcore boxing fans but little known. DLH fought at 135 for about 1 1/2 years and during that time he expectedly took on the bigger names, Leija, Hernandez, Ruelas, Molina and others. I guess Oscar moved up to fight Chavez at 140 in order to duck Nazarov
Oscar took the biggest fights available that were important for his career. we needed the Ike fight vs say forrest even tho i had ike up a point tito fight was boring but he needed it same with vargas.
Cotto?, PLEASE man. The Winky talks can be started and all but it's still not good enough proof he ducked him as Winky barely had serious wins, it's only the Trinidad win that started serious talks about possibly fighting DLH. DLH fighting Hopkins killed all the Winky talks for me and I'm sure there's a lot more behind that too. Cotto was a target and an obvious one. DLH was waiting for Cotto/Margarito as he made it clear Cotto is the guy he wants after that fight, not much for Margarito who barely had the resume/fame to bring a mega event. Cotto lost so his only choice, which he also mentioned as a possibility, was Pacquiao and the rest is history.
agreed. vargas fight was probably the sweetest win for oscar because of the 'foreplay' before it. vargas genuinely didnt like oscar but i'm sure a part of that was because of envy.
ohhh ****, my bad. -i meant margo. i just remembered some **** about oscar promising his wife he wouldnt fight another PR.. but he did duck margo and i dont give a **** about what ya'll say. -oscar said he'd fight the winner of margo-cotto like you said.
Oscar avoided a few very good fighters in their prime. Azumah Nelson.... He was in the audience of the Genaro Hernandez Raul Jibaro Perez match. When Genaro k.o. Perez with a devastating liver punch he called the fight off. At that point in his career he was the same size as Genaro. About 4 years later he fought a smaller Genaro Hernandez who had lost the pop in his liver punch due to an injured wrist that never fully recovered from surgery. About a year after this match he avoided Mosley throughout his lightweight years. If you think Mosley is great at welterweight at lightweight he was truly awesome. You can't hate Oscar for it though because at that point Arum promoted him. Oscar's career is still impressive.
Nah he fought just about the best in every weight class he was in. 130- Bredahl 135-paez-molina-ruelas-hernandez-leija 140-chavez-gonzalez 147-whitaker-camacho-chavez-quartey-carr-trinidad-mosley-gatti-pacquiao 154-castillejo-vargas-campas-mosley-mayorga-mayweather 160-sturm-hopkins The dude is a warrior and aint scared of a challenge.
Sort of like In jin Chi is to Pac I guess... Anyway, back on topic, OLDH seems to always to go for the big challenges and certainly isn't afraid to lose. And he made tons of money doing it. So he gets respect and money, good combo. :good
